College Basketball in Philadelphia – How do your schools fair? – 2011-2012

Hey Philadelphia, are you ready for some College Basketball? How does your Philadelphia school fair for the 2011-2012 season? Do you live in the City of Philadelphia, but went to another college? Or do you just happen to like another basketball school outside Philadelphia? Well, it’s that time of year.

Tonight we will have the 2011-2012 tip off on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, the same ship that buried Osama bin Laden at sea. Even though a few teams have already started the season, what a great way to start off college basketball, especially since today is November 11th which is Veterans Day.

So how does your Philadelphia school look like for the 2011-2012 season? Did you check out what Philadelphia area schools are ranked in the AP pre-season poll. And see that Gary Parrish from CBS Sports even picked Villanova University as number 25. Gary’s pre-season

  • 28.) Temple University
  • 33.) Villanova University
  • 37.) Drexel University

How about the Coaches pre-season poll.

  • 29.) Temple Univeristy
  • 34.) Villanova University
  • 44.) Drexel University

Okay, so Saint Joseph’s University, University of Pennsylvania, and La Salle University didn’t make the top 50 in college basketball. But are you an alumni of one of these schools, and looking forward to your basketball season? If not a fan of one of these Philadelphia school’s teams, then who is your favorite team and why?

What college basketball conference do you think is the toughest this year?  Maybe the ACC? The Big East? The Big Ten?

My favorite college basketball teams and why.

  • 1.) University of Louisville Cardinals – I lived in Louisville for five years during my high school years. Since Kentucky has no professional teams, it was really down to the University of Kentucky Wildcats or the University of Louisville Cardinals. I have been a Cardinal fan since 1980.
  • 2.) West Virginia University Mountaineers – It’s tough picking WVU 2nd since I went to school there, and even tougher over the years since both the Cardinals and Mountaineers play in the same conference.
  • 3.) Wisconsin Badgers – My dad is a UW alumni and I have been following Wisconsin football and basketball for 2 1/2 decades.
