Standard Tap is located at 2nd and Poplar Streets in Northern Liberties. This cozy American pub which opened on New Years Eve of 1999, pairs local microbrews with excellent, gourmet pub fare like chicken pies, fried smelts and double burgers.

The Standard Tap Experience & Atmosphere

Don’t let the outside of the building hinder your perception. Walking into the Standard Tap, some of the features that first strike you is a large wooden bar with dim lighting, a jukebox, and wooden booths in the adjoining room. While moving around the bar, there are a few rooms downstairs followed by an upstairs bar, a few more rooms, and an outside deck on the second floor.

What makes the Standard Tap one of the go-to places in Northern Liberties? They only feature locally-produced draft beers, 20 draughts total, from some of the finest award-winning craft breweries located in Philadelphia and the surrounding area. They even have 2 cask-conditioned brews served from hand pumps and a refrigerator draft that pours from the refrigerator. The selections are updated daily and include a wide range of styles and seasonal beers.

What’s unique about this pub is that they have no menus, as all the food is written on chalkboards throughout the pub. Better yet, the menu changes daily, giving you a fresh selection of foods which coordinates perfectly with its selection of exclusively local brews. And there is always a wide variety of appetizers, entrees, and drinks available, so everyone (with different tastes/diets) is satisfied.

The food is of local produce and meats. The more popular items are the burgers and 4 types of oysters. Other foods included are the mussels with sausage and grilled octopus, fresh seafood to include chilled scallops, a citrus salad, homemade granola and yogurt, and omelets and bloody marys which are served for weekend brunch.

Standard Tap has done nothing but grow since it opened its doors in 1999. You can expect to find a diverse crowd considering that it’s a casual place that makes you feel comfortable and has something to offer everyone. Many seem to fall in love. Have you given it a try?
