The Farmers’ Cabinet – Restaurants in Philadelphia

The Farmers’ Cabinet restaurant in Philadelphia is an interesting establishment in which it has added a different element to city dining. If you have heard some negative reviews from the past, you might want to rethink your stance, giving The Farmers’ Cabinet another chance. The reason being is because they have a new head chef, Chef Jason Goodman, who came over from Parc at the end of August 2011.

The Farmers’ Cabinet Atmosphere & Experience

When walking into the Farmers’ Cabinet, you may feel like you have entered a time machine, giving you a classic medieval atmosphere, which makes you feel like you are not in Philadelphia any longer. The lights are dim with candles and mirrors all over the place. You’ll see oak barrel tables around both bar sections and tall ceilings with imported beers and wines on the shelves.  My description is not to be depicted in a negative tone, but as a refreshing one, something very different and unique.

There seems to be two different dining areas. One dining area has a long public table in the center with benches on both sides, while there are smaller seating sections around the main table. The other dining area has your basic table layout with white table cloths. There is also background
music that blends well with the jazz-age decor which is just loud enough to have a real conversation.

Even though the restaurant has a hip menu, featuring some different foods, it feels that this establishment is very well suited for those beer drinkers looking for good quality beer with a different atmosphere. There are 26 taps that serve well-respected beers from around the world, 80 different types of bottled beer, and bartenders that are very knowledgeable. The cocktail list offers plenty of classics, but you could be enticed by some of Farmers’ originals such as the Barstools are on Fire, Hot Rain on Twelfth Street, or the Wabash Cannonball. There is also a list of wines, ciders, punches, and 4 taps that feature house made beer.

Okay, you got your drink on, but you are hungry. If on a date, you might want a small table in the back, especially when crowded. The menu has anything from steak, duck, lamb, roasted pork, stripe bass, their Farmers’ Cabinet burger, and much more. I have not eaten here as of yet, and will add to my article once I do. But I have heard good compliments about their roasted marrow bones, their chicken sandwiches, the steak, and their excellent cheese platters.

At the Farmers’ Cabinet in Philadelphia, you’ll experience fun, an eclectic menu, great beers, and an occasional live jazz performance. If you are looking for something different, you’ll need to check out this Philadelphia hot spot and voice your own opinion.
