In a powerful blend of culinary tradition and political advocacy, Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar is turning Monday nights into a mission for liberty. Starting Monday, March 23, 2026, the Old City staple will host The Great Cuban Freedom Feast, an all-you-can-eat dining experience designed to support the peaceful transition to democracy in Cuba.
The initiative comes at a pivotal moment. As the island faces a deepening economic crisis and historic power outages, the Cuban diaspora in Philadelphia is channeling their “renewed optimism” into direct action.
All-You-Can-Eat for a Cause
For $30 per person, guests can indulge in a traditional Cuban spread that honors the island’s rich flavors while fueling its future. The feast is available for dine-in every Monday night and features:
- The Main Event: Shredded slow-roasted, citrus-marinated pork shoulder topped with a zesty onion-caper mojo.
- The Sides: Classic white rice, black beans, jardín salad, and grilled bread.
- The Upgrades: Add crispy pork chicharrón for $5 or pair your meal with a $5 Cuba Libre cocktail (Bacardi, Coke, and lime)—a drink whose name literally translates to “Free Cuba.”
Dining with Purpose: Supporting “Cuba Decide”
This isn’t just about a meal; it’s about a movement. A portion of the proceeds from every feast will be donated to Cuba Decide, a non-profit, citizen-driven organization working to peacefully change the Cuban system toward democracy and the rule of law.
“As members of the Cuban diaspora… we decided to step up and do something that aligns with our company’s mission and DNA,” says Angel Roque, Cuba Libre’s Culinary Director.
Co-founder Barry Gutin echoes this sentiment, noting that the goal is to create a space for the community and supporters of democracy to gather and advocate for the 10 million citizens currently on the island.
A Legacy of Hope
Since opening in 2000, Cuba Libre’s very name has served as a beacon of hope for the island’s future. Following the retirement of James Beard award-winner Guillermo Pernot, Culinary Directors Kevin Couch and Angel Roque have continued the tradition of bringing the “escape to Havana” to life through authentic flavors and cultural storytelling.
