The Philadelphia Eagles – Do or Die?

.

The (1-4) Philadelphia Eagles play the (3-1) Washington Redskins at FedEx Field in Washington D.C. today. Some Eagles fans have said that their first home game several weeks ago against the San Francisco 49’ers was a must win. Well, besides the Redskins, since the other divisional teams have been losing, there can still be some hope. Especially for the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles play the Washington Redskins today, and a win will certainly put the Eagles back into the mix of things in their division.

Many football fans in general have been scratching their heads wondering why the “Dream Team”, aka the Philadelphia Eagles, have not been winning most of their games. We need to remember that the media placed that “Dream Team” tag on the Eagles during the off season when they made some excellent acquisitions. But the average person probably didn’t dissect the Eagles two biggest areas of concern. The offensive line and the defensive middle linebackers. And not to add insult to injury, but the Eagles promoted Juan Castillo as their defensive coordinator, who was their offensive line coach for 13 years.

Overall, the Philadelphia Eagles have one of the most potent offenses in the National Football League. But what is killing the Eagles in my opinion are the many turnovers and the inconsistent play of their defense. The Eagles lead the NFL with 15 turnovers, yet they are 3rd in the NFL in total offense, while averaging 445.6 yards per game. But one concern is that they are 10th overall in scoring points. Part of the reason is that they have turned over the ball when approaching their opponent’s end zone and the other is that they sometimes have a tough time scoring when in the red zone.

My thoughts : I see the Philadelphia Eagles pulling themselves out of the hole with a win over the Washington Redskins today. Yes, they have the talent on both offense and defense. But five things must happen in order to win games and possibly secure the NFC East.

Stop turning the ball over

Tackle better

Stop other teams from running all over them on defense

Give Michael Vick better protection in the pocket

Hope that the other teams in the Philadelphia Eagles division lose more games.

Today’s prediction : Philadelphia Eagles 24 – Washington Redskins 20
