Halloween is in full swing in the City of Brotherly Love. Who loves Halloween, the cooler weather, and the Fall festive events in the city. There are several festivals this weekend, Mural Arts Month, and a few special art exhibits.

Important reminder – If you haven’t checked out the Open Air nightly event, it ends this Sunday evening, October 14, and it’s a must see.

Did you know : Philadelphia was named having the best sandwich in America, #2 in best burgers in the country by Travel + Leisure and in the last 8 months, the city has been recognized for top 10 parks in the world, best cheesesteaks, and #1 in Culture. We can feel that the list will be growing in 2013.

  • ‘Explore Philly’s Buried Past’ ~ October 13 ~ Free to the public, from 9 am-3 pm. Come explore the most recent artifacts and archaeological site discoveries from Philadelphia. Held at the The National Constitution Center ~ Program Schedule ~
  • Fun at Sister Cities Park ~ October 13 ~ Many events, from Soccer Shots for ages 3-8 from 9:30 am-11:30; Art in the Park for ages up to 14 from 11 am-1pm; and food & drinks at Milk & Honey Cafe; open 7 am-7pm. ~ Art in the Park ~ ~ info on Sister Cities Park ~
  • “Stoker’s Dracula” is coming to Elfreth’s Alley ~ October 13 ~ The count is coming… Come see the bloodthirsty fiend of legend as he stalks through America’s longest lived-on street, Elfreth’s Alley.   • Philadelphia Film Festival ~ October 18 – 28 ~ 21st Philadelphia Film Festival. Come check out Independent Films, sneak previews, meet the actors & film makers, and attend parties.  ~Philadelphia Film Festival ~
  • Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary ~ Now until November 10 ~ There are 6 scary attractions inside the cell blocks of Eastern State Penitentiary which should put a little fear in your shoes. Do you dare? ~ Terror Behind the Walls ~
  • Ghost Tour of Philadelphia ~ Now until November 10 ~ This company has 3 main types of Ghost tours to choose from. Either way, you are bound to be spooked. Keep in mind that these tours run all year round, but are mostly concentrated around Halloween, so you need to check their calendar of events for dates. ~ The Ghost Tour of Philadelphia ~
  • Barnes Foundation ~ Now Open ~  The new building finally opened May 19th. You get to explore the world’s largest collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Modern paintings–including tons of works by Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso, van Gogh and Renoir—inside this new 12,000 square-foot gallery. ~ Barnes Foundation ~
  • Maya 2012 – Lords of Time Exhibit at Penn’s Museum ~ Now until January 13, 2013 ~ Learn more about that superstition and the culture behind the Mayan prophecy. This exhibit will showcase the fascinating and mysterious Mayan people.~ Maya 2012 Exhibit ~
  • The Swedish American Line Exhibition ~ Now until February 24 ~ From the early days as a passenger fleet for immigrants to its lavish cruises, visitors will get a look into the fleet’s history, exquisite style and personal stories and anecdotes from former passengers.   • Philadelphia City Hall ~ Like Architecture? Philadelphia History? They give tours of the Philadelphia City Hall. If you go up high enough, you get to see the whole city. ~ Philadelphia City Hall~
  • Philadelphia Museum of Art – So many things that surround this museum. The “Rocky” Steps or the “Rocky” statue. A great view down Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Behind the museum, you can view Boat House Row and a few other things. ~ Philadelphia Museum of Art~
