Things to do in Philadelphia heading into 2012

There are some many things to do in Philadelphia heading into 2012. The two biggest events are the fireworks in Philadelphia New Year’s Eve and the Mummers Parade on New Year’s Day.

What To Expect in the City of Philadelphia

You first have the fireworks in Philadelphia tonight, but you get two shows if you are lucky. The City of Philadelphia is putting two shows on which is being sponsored by Sugarhouse Casino. The first show starts at 6 pm and the second at midnight.

Thousands of people in Philadelphia will be in the Penn’s Landing area for the fireworks in Philadelphia. There are several locations in that area such as the Blue Cross River Rink, which as a pedestrian bridge above to where you can hang out. You can also view these fireworks from across the river in New Jersey at the Camden Aquarium. Keep in mind, you can even ring in the New Year by ice skating at the River Rink, while watching the fireworks. They also have two times that coincide with the fireworks.

The following day, you have the Mummers Parade. It seems that only the people in the surrounding area of Philadelphia and New Jersey truly know about the Mummers and what takes place. This parade and the celebration that takes place afterwards is like a mini Mardi Gras.

If you have never been to the Mummers Parade, you should check it out. There is so much history regarding the Mummers. And hopefully this year they will be televising it nationally, so others can get an idea of what happens in Philadelphia on New Year’s Day and what the big commotion is regarding the Mummers Parade.
