Scrapple at ScrappleFest at Reading Terminal Market
‘Pennsylvania’s Food – Scrapple!’
ScrappleFest for January 23 has been cancelled! We’ll keep you posted if there will be a snow date announced!
The Reading Terminal Market itself is a Philadelphia treasure!
There is a lot of history and as one of the greatest public markets in the country, you can enjoy eating virtually every type of cuisine, from sublime soul food and exquisite Asian and Middle Eastern dishes, Cajun foods, to authentic Philly Cheesesteaks and traditional Pennsylvania Dutch fare! There are even little shops with homemade items, imported crafts, freshly cut flowers, cookbooks, produce and even sit-down eateries are scattered throughout the market.
This Saturday, January 23, enjoy ScrappleFest from 10 am to 4 pm!
Hungry visitors will be able to enjoy samples of scrapple from many local Scrapple brands, chefs will prepare an assortment of scrapple dishes, and a panel of local celebrities will judge the best Scrapple dish.
What is scrapple? Traditionally, scrapple is a loaf of pork scraps, cornmeal, spices and flour that’s sliced and fried to order.
Some of Reading Terminal Market merchants will be preparing special scrapple meals as well.
- Beck’s Cajun Cafe will be preparing Eggs Saint Rita: Poached Eggs atop Grilled Cornbread, sautéed spinach, shrimp and Andouille Scrapple with Creole Hollandaise.
As we get more special scrapple meals, we’ll add them leading up to ScrappleFest.
The annual ScrappleFest is truly a hit with many from all over! You can buy scrapple at Smucker’s Quality Meats and Grill, Hatville Deli, or you can sit down for a good southern-style scrapple breakfast at Down Home Diner.
Bon Appetit!
