Hot Diggity – Creative Hot Dogs in Philadelphia

Hot Dogs in Philadelphia at Hot Diggity

‘Creative Hot Dogs as Street Art’

Wonder if there ever was a hot dog heaven? There is at Hot Diggity, located in the South Street District section of Philadelphia. Chef Keith Garabedian opened this dog haven in June of 2011.

The Hot Diggity Experience & Atmosphere

Walking along the heart of the South Street Strip, Hot Diggity’s aroma of fresh hot dogs draws you into their web.

When walking in, you’ll notice it as a very casual place, and you’ll see three long tables to your right that seat approximately 24 people. Before you walk up to the ‘easy to order’ counter, you can check out their daily board of dogs. You’ll have a choice from eleven different types of specialty hot dogs and one plain dog that can be served with the basic toppings. You’ll find such tasty choices such as The Philly Surf and Turf, The Texas Hold’Em, The Desert Dog, The Fiesta Dog, The Bronx Bomber and several others.  They even have a Vegan and Vegetarian hot dog. Lastly, don’t forget to check the board for the Hot Dog of the month.

The hot dogs are of  a quality frankfurter (Sabrett natural casing) and placed in a fresh hot dog roll from Liscio’s Bakery. Most of the toppings are made in-house.

I had the pleasure of trying the Texas Hold’Em dog. A bacon wrapped dog covered in shredded cheese, hot sauce, onions, scallions and made extra special with the addition of  barbecue sauce from Percy Street BBQ. It was quite tasty in my opinion.

Not sure if you can eat two hot dogs, but you want something else to go along with it. Try their thick Belgian style hand-cut fries, served in a paper cone with housemade dipping sauces. There is a separate board just for the 17 dipping sauces that rotate from time to time.  You’ll find such sauces as the curry mustard mayo or peppercorn ranch.

Need something to drink with your specialty dog. There are two types of homemade sodas made using no corn syrup. They always have their Root Beer on tap and the second type is a seasonal soda. Feeling like you want a beer or wine with your dog? It’s BYOB, allowing you to bring any type of drink.

Hot Diggity certainly seems like a casual place to get your quick fix of different types of hot dogs. As wait for your order, which comes up quickly, check out the hot dog art on the walls by Hawk Krall.

How many do you think you could eat in one sitting.
