When you are spending time on the Seven Mile Beach and looking for an elevated dining experience that still maintains a fun, coastal energy, ICONA Windrift at 105 80th St, Avalon, NJ 08202 is a standout destination. Operating as a sprawling beachfront complex with multiple distinct dining venues, the Windrift offers an incredibly versatile social scene. Whether you are craving fresh seafood, perfectly executed steakhouse classics, or a lively night out, this Avalon resort genuinely has it all.
Bountiful French Onion Soup and Clams Casino
Although we were initially leaning toward a steakhouse experience, we ultimately decided to explore their diverse entree options—and we were absolutely rewarded for it. The kitchen’s execution of classic appetizers was superb:
- The French Onion Soup: This was a massive highlight. The soup was delicious, bountiful, and uniquely presented—not served in a standard crock, but instead in an individual serving pot. The wonderful presentation matched the rich, deeply savory flavor.
- Clams Casino: The clams casino was perfectly balanced. It was full of clams, with just enough filling to complement rather than overwhelm their taste. Additionally, the clams were not pulverized but lightly chopped, allowing you actually to enjoy their natural texture.
- Fresh Sushi & Crab Cakes: Diners also consistently praise the fresh, hand-rolled sushi and the lump crab cakes, which are fantastic options if you prefer lighter coastal fare.
The Incredible Lobster Risotto
If you order one main course, it needs to be the lobster risotto. The dish was incredible—rich, creamy, and loaded with a generous amount of fresh lobster. The portion itself was quite generous; it is almost shareable. I say “almost” because I just enjoyed it too much, actually, to share it!
In my humble opinion, the ultimate move for a couple dining here is to order the clams casino and the lobster risotto for two and split them. Because the complex operates with five kitchens, food comes out relatively quickly, even when the dining rooms are packed, ensuring your meal is hot and perfectly timed.
The Piano Bar and Lively Hospitality
An absolutely wonderful dining experience is about more than just the food, and the Windrift truly excels with its atmosphere. After dinner, the piano bar was great—offering live music that adds a warm, engaging energy to the room. The patrons themselves added to the fun, creating that perfect, vibrant Jersey Shore social scene.
Matching the lively atmosphere is the exceptionally friendly, professional, and knowledgeable staff. From the fast kitchen service to the attentive servers, we really haven’t had a bad meal here since we started coming down to Avalon.
