Philadelphia’s Head House Square neighborhood is about to get a lot sweeter with the arrival of Loretta’s, a retro-inspired bakery and cafe opening on December 7th. The team behind the popular Bloomsday restaurant and Green Engine Coffee is bringing their culinary expertise and passion for community to this charming new spot.
Chef-owner Kelsey Bush, along with Sara May and D’Onna Stubblefield, has crafted a menu that’s both nostalgic and delicious. They’ve elevated classic American comfort food with fresh, seasonal ingredients and creative twists. Imagine your favorite “steel magnolia” whipping up a batch of sticky cinnamon buns or a hearty breakfast sub but with the finesse of a top Philadelphia chef.
Loretta’s pastry program is already generating buzz, having been featured in Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best Neighborhood Bakeries” guide. Don’t miss their signature sticky cinnamon buns, seasonal apple galette, and decadent cosmic brownies. For those seeking something savory, Loretta’s offers a variety of tempting options, including breakfast hand pies, a hearty breakfast sub, and a unique bagel sandwich with South Philly cream cheese. Lunchtime favorites include the Lancaster Italian, a classic combination of Italian meats and cheeses, and the comforting meatloaf patty melt.
Loretta boasts a specialty coffee program featuring Rival Bros. Coffee, fresh juices, and ads to complement the delicious food. The cafe itself is a feast for the eyes, with a retro-inspired design that incorporates a muted color palette with pops of French blue and poppy red, checkerboard elements, and vintage antiques sourced from across Pennsylvania.
Loretta’s is a labor of love, with much of the renovation completed by Bush and her family. The branding, created by Alli Coates, features Bush’s grandmother’s image as the primary logo, adding a personal touch to this charming new spot.
Loretta’s is in Head House Square and officially opens on December 7th. Stop by and experience the nostalgic charm, delicious treats, and welcoming atmosphere of this exciting new addition to Philadelphia’s culinary scene.
