Philadelphia, PA – As the city continues to swelter under a relentless heat wave, residents are finding creative ways to beat the heat and stay cool. The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s Heatline (215-765-9040) has been inundated with calls from concerned residents seeking advice on staying safe and healthy in the extreme heat. Nurses are on hand to answer questions about heat-related illnesses and provide tips on how to stay cool and hydrated.

Local parks and spraygrounds have become popular destinations for families looking to cool off. “It’s important to hydrate, so here we are at Parks on Tap making sure we get a cool beverage,” said one resident enjoying a cold drink at a local park.

The city’s public pools have also seen an increase in visitors, with many residents taking advantage of the free swim programs offered by the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department. “I think we are going to be surviving with the garden hose and spraying the toddler down,” said one parent, who was making the most of the hot weather with her family.

City officials are urging residents to check on elderly neighbors and family members, as they are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. “The best way to protect our loved ones is to make sure they can get into air conditioning during the hottest part of the day,” said a spokesperson for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.

As the heat wave continues, residents are advised to stay hydrated, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. With temperatures expected to remain high throughout the week, Philadelphians are banding together to stay cool and support one another through this sweltering heat wave.
