The Pod Restaurant, located in University City, opened its doors in 2000. Even though it’s on the University of Pennsylvania campus; the crowd spans multiple age groups.

The Pod Experience & Atmosphere

A fun, live, entertaining restaurant-bar that allows your imagination to run freely while having some excellent sushi. The restaurant was designed by the Rockwell group in a futuristic space with three sleek pods to dine in and a conveyor belt with daily sushi offerings. The conveyor belt is loaded with yummy sushi and specialty drinks while the pods themselves allow you to change the color of your lights, creating a fun and unique atmosphere.

The food type is of contemporary pan Asian with fun Japanese influences. Some of the more popular foods are Nigiri Sushi, Crab Springrolls, assortment of fun Robata Grill dishes, Tempura Rock Shrimp, and if there for lunch, the express Bento which allows you to have an entire meal served 15 minutes after ordering.

Looking for a beer or a specialty drink. The Pod has 5 draft beers on tap, Sapporo being the Japanese beer of choice. The others are Yuengling, Dogfish Head, Yards Brawler and a seasonal selection. Prefer a bottled beer over a draft. They have 8 bottled beers, mostly of Japanese influence such as Tsingtao, Ashai ‘Black’, Kirin ‘Ichiban’ and a few others.

Feeling a little crazy and want a specialty drink. Try one of the Pods many different styles such as the Ume Plum Margarite, Sake Mojito, Blood Orange Sidecar, Yuzu Chu-Hai, Chocolate-Covered Cherry or the 6 different colors of martinis of red, pink, orange, yellow, green or blue. Each martini’s color is for special reason, so ask.

The Pod Restaurant, which is a Stephen Starr restaurant, is unique and offers special allure to the establishment. The dress is casual to dressy and if you want to learn how to prepare sushi, you can call to schedule a sushi class with talented Chef Takasu. 楽しむ
