Thousands of Coaches Descend on Philly as Soccer Fever Builds
CENTER CITY — The FIFA World Cup doesn’t arrive in Philadelphia until June, but the soccer world is already here. This week, the Pennsylvania Convention Center plays host to the 2026 United Soccer Coaches Convention, running from January 14–18.
It is the largest annual gathering of soccer coaches and administrators in the nation, and its arrival in Philadelphia this January is no coincidence. Organizers are using the event to serve as a ceremonial “kickoff” for the city’s World Cup host duties.
What’s Happening? Over 10,000 attendees are expected to fill downtown hotels and restaurants. The convention features over 200 educational sessions, but the real draw for locals is the “Exhibit Hall” and the buzz surrounding the upcoming tournament. With Philadelphia set to host a Round of 16 match on July 4th—the nation’s 250th birthday—the energy at this year’s convention is palpable.
“This is the preamble,” said a representative from Philadelphia Soccer 2026. “You have youth coaches, college scouts, and pro executives all in one building, all talking about what’s going to happen at Lincoln Financial Field this summer.”
