Benjamin Franklin Museum

‘A Museum Dedicated To An Extraordinary Man’

Benjamin Franklin was a man of many talents, thoughts and one of our Founding Fathers. The Benjamin Franklin Museum is located in Historic Philadelphia in Independence National Historic Park. It is dedicated to bringing visitors closer to his private life as a citizen, as a philosopher, a diplomat and much more.

Benjamin Franklin Museum Experience & Atmosphere

The museum, originally built for the 1976 Bicentennial celebration, is built next to where Franklin actually lived in the mid 1700’s. It is housed underground, beneath Franklin Court, which went through a major two-year revitalization from 2011 to 2013.

Visitors will see a steel ghost structure that outlines the spot where Franklin’s house once stood and next to that is the 20,000-square-foot underground museum.

You’ll get to learn the various roles that Benjamin Franklin played during his lifetime. Such roles he played were that of a printer, a diplomat, a scientist, and a founder of many institutions.

The primary exhibition space is organized into five main areas, which reflect Franklin’s personality and character traits. These areas will display a large array of historical artifacts, computer animations, audio and interactive displays, 11 hands-on inter-actives, a movie-style projection showcasing portions of Franklin’s autobiography and much more.

The Benjamin Franklin Museum is both educational and fun, truly revealing how Franklin personified the 18th century and how his ideas live with us today which are still relevant.
