‘Where You Can Be In Heaven & Hell At The Same Time’
Devil’s Alley is located near the corner of 19th and Chestnut Streets in the Center City West area, next to the Rittenhouse Square area and the Penn Center area. Opening five years ago, this establishment brings an unique balance to the surrounding area.
Devil’s Alley Experience & Atmosphere
Devil’s Alley is a cozy bi-level restaurant and bar with an urban decor, cool ambiance, and an outdoor vibe to it. Tends to be a bit dark with exposed beams, hardwood styled floors, huge sky lights and some live trees and plants throughout the establishment.
The first floor is primarily for meals only, just as well as the back of the upper section. When approaching the second floor, you’ll see the bar which seats approximately 6-8, with an additional 3-4 high tops, and 3 larger tables up front near the window. When it’s nice out, the window-doors are opened, which over-look Chestnut Street.
The menu has a nice selection of Southern Comfort foods such as BBQ foods and ribs, 8 types of burgers, Quesadillas, chili, 5 styles of salads, and much more. Two of the more popular foods are their chicken wings and the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich.
Devil’s Alley slow cooks their chicken wings for many hours and then barbecues them on the grill. The wings are packed with flavor and stray from the normal boring chicken wings as the meat falls of the bone. And I had the pleasure of trying the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich that was spicy and creamy with an incredible roll that ties it all together.
When it comes to beer, there are 8 drafts, 7 of which are continually rotating and seasonal, all of which are local beers. The one beer that never changes is the Yuengling Lager tap. There are also 25 bottled beers and 9 different choices of their specialty drinks such as the Devil’s Classic Margarita, the Pomegranate Sangria, and the Honeysuckle Martini.
Devil’s Alley is a good place for friendly gatherings, happy hours, and even that fun date. Looking for a relaxing place, that because of the ambiance, can make you think you are some place else? Then this may be the spot for you.
