Frankford Hall – Experiencing German Biergarten in Fishtown

Frankford Hall in Fishtown Philadelphia

‘German Beer Hall Invades Fishtown’

Frankford Hall, a Stephen Starr restaurant which was opened in May 2011, is located in the Fishtown neighborhood. A place where one can explore many types of German foods and beers, inside or outside.

Frankford Hall Experience & Atmosphere

When entering through Frankford Hall’s red-and-white candy-striped doors, you enter one of Philadelphia’s largest beer gardens that seats approximately 200 people inside and another 350 people in the outdoor courtyard.

This beautifully renovated industrial space features exposed brick, mood lighting, and an outdoor seating area with approximately 29 picnic-style benches. This place is perfect for enjoying the fall weather in their open air courtyard. It is open during the winter months, with several fire pits within the courtyard to help keep you warm.

Frankford Hall in Fishtown PhiladelphiaThere are three separate bars, one specifically reserved for beer, which keeps the drinks flowing. There is also a walk-up counter for which you can order a variety of German sausages that are served with sauerkraut or red cabbage, Jägerschnitzel, rotisserie chicken, Spätzle with bacon and mushrooms, Bavarian dumplings, fries with curry ketchup and more. Some of the more popular foods ordered are the Spicy Bauernwurst or the 10 ounce Bavarian pretzel which is directly from Munich.

Craving for a burger instead? The establishment serves your choice of 6 different styles of burgers, all of which are dry-aged beef blend from LaFrieda, and served on Hudson Bakery soft buns with crispy French fries.

The front bar features twelve draft beers, with one tap geared to a rotating draft. The back bar features nine beers on tap, and you can find twelve bottled beers and five wines. Some of the draft beers are the usual German beer suspects of Franziskaner Dunkel-Weisse, Spaten Oktoberfest and Hofbräu Dunkel Lager, all of which are sold by half-liter and liter. Some of the bottles include Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, Sly Fox Pikeland Pils, Miller Lite and Yuengling Lager.

Frankford Hall is laid back, relaxing, and friendly. This place might not replicate an authentic German beer hall such as Brauhaus Schmitz or Bierstube, but it is certainly one excellent place to enjoy traditional German eats and steins of beer while hanging with friends. Prost!
