Swedish American Line Exhibit at the American Swedish Historical Museum

Dating back to 1915, it started as a passenger fleet for immigrants, switching to lavish “Around the World” cruises of the 1960s, until it closed in 1975.

This exhibition features the memorabilia from the collection of Torsten Torstensson, the owner of one of the largest collections of Swedish American Line memorabilia in the world. Everything from fine China, gorgeous interiors detailed by famous designers, Orrfors and Kosta crystal, and even the officer’s uniforms were all top of the line products. The staff always made sure that the passengers where made comfortable, whether they had prepared an elegant dinner table or had stocked the children’s game room.

The Swedish American Line played a very important role in connecting Scandinavia and the U.S while serving as a meeting place for Swedes and Swedish Americans, as they sailed between Göteborg and New York. Many connections and friendships were made over the years during these voyages. Come check out this exciting exhibit while hearing the stories of the past through pictures and much more.
