Irish American Festival Invades The Great Plaza At Penn’s Landing

 Delaware River Waterfront

‘Celebrating All Things Irish’

What a great way to kick off the month of June than with PECO’s Multicultural Series celebrating the Irish American Festival at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. The celebration is on June 4 from noon to 7 pm.

The PECO Multicultural Series is a succession of outdoor festivals that brings cultures and their traditions from all over the world into Philadelphia.

Irish American Festival’s Atmosphere & Experience

The Irish Festival celebrates Ireland’s cultural gems, from music to dancing to food.

Enjoy live performances on the main stage by Jamison Celtic Rock (noon – 3:15 pm) and Derek Warfield and the Young Wolftones (3:45 pm – 7 pm). There will also be a plethora of Irish dancers from local dance schools and bagpipers such as Timoney, Riley Irish Dance, Rince Ri, Coyle and Celtic Flame.

Let’s not forget traditional Irish foods like shepherd’s pie, corned beef and cabbage, and bangers and mash. There will be outdoor shops of craft vendors selling authentic and traditional Irish goods as well.

For those that don’t know, the Irish Memorial is right around the corner at Front and Chestnut Streets. This heart felt monument was sculpted by Glenna Goodacre and is dedicated to the memory of more than one million men, women and children who died during the years 1845 to 1850, better known as “The Great Hunger in Ireland.”  This is a must see attraction.

So get out your kilts and don’t be afraid to do the Irish Jig or sing along to Irish Eyes Are Smiling. This family event is the gateway to the summer and can be enjoyed by all ages. And guess what, you don’t have to be Irish to attend.

Sláinte, wishing you good health!
