Morgan’s Pier – A Waterfront Beer Garden at Penn’s Landing

Morgan's Pier at Penns Landing in Philadelphia

‘Outside Paradise’

Morgan’s Pier, reopening on May 1, 2014, is an outdoor beer garden style bar and lounge that is right next to the Ben Franklin Bridge on Columbus Boulevard in Penn’s Landing. It first opened on May 25, 2012.

Morgan’s Pier Experience & Atmosphere

Philadelphia waterfront’s newest addition, Morgan’s Pier, will be refreshing and a great complement to the Race Street Pier because of its openness, having large space in which you can get around freely and because of the lush greenery and scenery.

You will get to experience the wooden picnic tables, vintage umbrellas, former cable spools as table tops, and trees strewn with market lights combined with urban and salvaged materials to provide a unique outdoor setting for Philly.

Morgan's Pier at Penns Landing in PhiladelphiaThere are two bars, the main bar and the craft bar. They will offer a rotating selection of 20 draft beers, 20 craft cans, summer wines and signature cocktails.

Chef David Gilberg is at the helm of his seasonally-aware menu, which includes compressed watermelon, vegetable kabobs, & spicy elote corn dip. The menu also includes grilled pork and ramp sausage sandwiches, hamburgers, three different types of tacos, fried Jersey tomato sandwiches, and pulled pork. All of the food mentioned comes in just below the $10 mark.

What will be unique and fun is that Katz will invite Philadelphia chefs to share their idea of the perfect barbecue during the summer at Morgan’s. Those participating so far will be;

  • Michael Solomonov (Zahav, Percy Street Barbecue, & Federal Donuts,)
  • Terence Feury (Fork Restaurant)
  • Kevin Sbraga (Sbraga)

So you have good food and beers. What seems to be missing when at an outdoor establishment. Yes, you guessed it, good music. There will be weekly entertainment with DJs and live bands.  There will be Saturday afternoon concerts that will be free, starting June 9th and every Sunday at 3pm, the deck will host the Sundae Open Air Dance Party, presented by Lee Jones.

How did Morgan’s Pier come about? Named for George C. Morgan, who was the first person to cross the span of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Morgan did so by walking the final 50 feet of the incomplete foot bridge on a bare support cable 400 feet in the air.

Once a former location of Rock Lobster and a quick stay for Octo8, Morgan’s Pier, welcome to our beloved city. I know we’ll enjoy you. Stay true to yourself and don’t change. Philly, should be excited!
