‘ A Social Media Contest for a Worthy Cause Supporting Philabundance’

UPDATE as of June 18th: MyPhillyAlive has made it into Round 2, which is now head-to-head competition and runs from June 18 – 24. Winners will be announced June 25th and move onto Round 3. There are several ways that you can help us, which are listed below. We truly appreciate it. Thanks!

It’s that time of year again when it comes to the Business Journal’s social media contest.

We are excited to participate this year and entered last years Business Journal’s first ever social media contest, in which we made it to the third round.

The contest is held in 40 plus cities through out the United States. Obviously we are participating in the Philadelphia Business Journal’s  group. Each company participating is placed in one of three categories; Small, Medium, or Large. The contest started June 3 and continues in multiple stages until August 19. The top eight companies after round one move onto round two and so on. Round one ends at midnight on June 17, so we certainly could use your help. The winner of each category when it’s all said and down, after nine total rounds, will be announced on August 20. The winner will have the opportunity to designate a charity to receive a $10,000 donation from the Sponsor in the winner’s name.

It’s very simple. Each company is awarded specific points for the various types of engagement that it receives on the four social media channels that have been selected. Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and LinkedIn. Everything is built into an algorithm, with some types of engagement receiving a higher weight than others. That happens to be a top secret with the Business Journal. You can also help by voting daily, but you are only allowed to cast one per day per company listed. Of course we hope you choose MyPhillyAlive, which is located in the ‘Large’ group.

Considering that we are fond of so many charities located in Philadelphia, it’s very hard to just pick one in the local area. We chose Philabundance for various reasons, even though we support so many other local charities in the City of Brotherly Love.

Philadabundance is a non-profit food bank that serves the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region of Pennsylvania. Below is some information from wikipedia directly.

The organization was founded in 1984 by Pam Lawler. In the year 2005, it merged with The Greater Philadelphia Food Bank, and the new entity operates under the name Philabundance.

The organization aims to fight hunger by reducing food waste and giving food surpluses to local partners who serve such people.

Philabundance operates through direct service programs, contributing through food cupboards, emergency kitchens, shelters, daycare centers and senior centers. With a network of nearly 500 member agencies, Philabundance runs hunger prevention programs for providing emergency relief, as well as working on long term measures to address hunger in the Delaware valley.
