‘Featuring Exhibitions, Walking Tours, Mural Dedications, Paint Days & More’

The Mural Arts Program has been around for 28 years. The program has united artists and communities through a collaborate process, allowing others to create art that transforms public places and individual lives. These murals even create unique project-based learning opportunities for thousands of marginalized youth and adults in several types of art programs.

During the entire month of October, the Mural Arts Program will be enriching our city with excitement and celebrations of art and creativity in honor of Mural Arts Month. There will be many events to include exhibitions, mural dedications, walking tours, trolley tours, celebrity mural tours, book signings, lectures and much more.

Here’s some of our choices for the month of October:

Official Guided Mural Arts Tours of your choice

  • The Trolley Tours (various Philadelphia neighborhoods) – Wednesday, Saturday, & Sunday starting at 10 am.
  • Mural Mile Walking Tour – Exploring the murals in Center City, Wednesday through Saturday starting at 10:30 am.
  • Love Letter Tour (via elevated train) – Saturday’s at 10 am and Sunday’s at 1 pm.

All tours depart from the Mural Arts at the Gallery on 9th and Market Streets. ($30 for the Trolley Tours & $20 for the other two tours)

Bloktoberfest Mural Arts Celebration – Sat., October 13th from 11 am – 3 pm

Philadelphia Murals - Mural Arts ProgramPainting and arts & crafts, entertainment, and lots of fun at the World Communications Charter School at Broad and South Streets.

Philly Painting Walking Tour & Artist Talk – Sat., October 13 from 1-3 pm

This free event is with world-renowned Dutch artists Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn who have transformed the streetscape between the 2500 and 2800 blocks of Germantown Avenue with large-scale mural projects. Join the Mural Arts for a guided walking tour and artists’ talk at the Philly Painting Storefront at 2600 Germantown Avenue.

Aqui Y Alla Exhinition – Thur., October 18 at 5:30 pm at 1515 S. 6th Street

Come celebrate this mural dedication that was created and directed by Philly’s own local artist, Michelle Angela Ortiz. This project explores the impact of immigration in the lives of Mexican youth in South Philadelphia. This project joins two cultural worlds through the vision of young people.

The Roots Mural Project Celebration – Sat., October 27 from 1 – 3 pm

The Roots Mural Project honors the legacy of Philly’s own GRAMMY® Award-winning musical group, The Roots. Enjoy an afternoon of painting, live music, and giveaways. This project will be dedicated in spring of 2013. The event will be held at the World Communications Charter School.

Mural Arts AppleFest – Sat., October 27 from 11 am – 2 pm

Mural Arts is teaming up with Whole Foods Market Callowhill to celebrate fall and the arts in Philly with apple treats. The event will feature apple tastings and fun arts activities, including a live mural painting station.
