‘In Wentz We Trust!’

Eagles fans, we guess you got what you wanted! That many of you didn’t believe in Sam Bradford and that you have high hopes regarding quarterback Carson Wentz.

Yes, we can claim that we are in a rebuilding year! Philly has a new head coach in Doug Pederson, a second overall pick in Carson Wentz, and Jim Schwartz as the Eagles new defensive coordinator. But wait, how many times in the last 5 years have we been in a rebuilding year? When will it end!

As a long time Eagles fan, I will honestly say that I was truly looking forward in watching Sam Bradford this year. I didn’t have a problem with Wentz on the bench and to learn the system. I also believed that Chip Kelly didn’t properly use Bradford last year. And there are several other reasons why I was looking forward to Bradford. Maybe he’ll show you what he has with the Minnesota Vikings. Time will tell.

What we need to do is focus on the Eagles in 2016 and beyond. I’ll say that I am enthusiastic that we finally have a defensive coordinator in Schwartz, after three dismal years with Billy Davis. We might not have stud linebackers or flashy cornerbacks, but we do have a stout defensive line that will put pressure on many quarterbacks.  And a total defensive package that should do better than expected this year.

The Eagles offensive is what is an unknown. Having a rookie quarterback and a suspect receiving group, they will need to be able to sustain drives to have a chance. Not unless thirty-five percent of their points come from special teams and the defense. I will go on record to say, “Watch out for receiver Dorial Green-Beckham!” Forget about the fact that he was a second round pick of the Tennessee Titans and let go after his first year. He has the size, speed and talent. The Eagles haven’t had a receiver of this magnitude in many years since the days of Terrell Owens. What do you say?

Notes: A few things on the side of the Philadelphia Eagles!

  • Less hype than in the past years, which we hope leads to a better season.
  • A new quarterback with size, arm strength, and who is mobile. But does he carry over experience from his college days with limited reps?
  • A new rookie head coach. If the Eagles bust, can we just blame it on the head coach, right?
  • A semi weak NFC East Division might allow the Eagles to possibly wiggle into the playoffs. I feel that the Washington Redskins will be the team to beat.
  • Starting the season against the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears! They’ll need to go 2-0 and 4-2 before heading into Dallas for any chance of becoming Division Champs!

Jeff Belonger’s Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles 9-7
