Top Chef - Chefs Nina Compton & Nicholas Elmi

‘Meet New “Top Chef” Nicholas Elmi!’

Have you been keeping up with the television series Top Chef? A Bravo tv show that first aired in 2006, in which chefs compete against each other in culinary challenges.

Philadelphia can now welcome one of its own. Congratulations chef Nicholas Elmi, who took the grand prize and the title of “Top Chef” in Top Chef’s 11th season which aired Wednesday night, February 5th.
Top Chef Winner Chef Nicholas Elmi

Chef Elmi was one of nineteen contestants on the show and who now joins Chef Kevin Sbraga, another Philly chef who won in season seven. The City of Brotherly Love has produced chefs who have won culinary awards and or have participated in such things as Top Chef, Iron Chef, the James Beard Award or have been mentioned in Food and Wine. We would like to mention past participants of Top Chef, chefs Jennifer Carroll and Jason Cichonski and a past winner of Iron Chef, chef Jose Garces.

Chef Elmi has the expertise and training in French techniques to serve up delectable French cuisine. He has been the executive chef of such renowned restaurants as Le Bec Fin and the Rittenhouse Tavern, both of which have been closed over the years.

This past fall, Elmi opened his own restaurant on East Passyunk Avenue called Laurel. Laurel is a modern French influenced American BYOB restaurant located in South Philadelphia which offers good food and an intimate dining experience.

For those that missed last night’s episode or the full season, you can watch them online.

Again, Congratulations Chef!
