Philly Bierfest – Exploring Many Germans Beers While Having Fun!

Philly Bierfest

‘Great Times With Great Beers & Great Friends!’

Welcome to the 9th Annual Philly Brewfest on February 29! Where all beer lovers dreams come true!

Enjoy two beer-filled buildings, five floors of activities to explore and so much more!

Bierfest is jointly hosted by The German Society of Pennsylvania who help celebrate Pennsylvania’s German brewing heritage. This fun-filled event will be presented in collaboration with the female athletes of Philly Roller Derby, who bring so much excitement to the Philly Bierfest and the Brewers of Pennsylvania

Visit with PA’s leading brewers of Lagers, Bocks and Weizens, and sample a diverse array of imports from Germany!

Guests will enjoy live German and American music, Roller Derby arm wrestling, a Berlin-style beerlesque, Polkadelphia’s Oompah-Funk and much more!

You’ll also be able to visit Pennsylvania’s cheese-makers and cideries in the eerie Edgar Allan Poe Cheese Cave and Cider Bar located in the German Society’s traditional Ratskeller Tavern.

Thirst away with nearly twenty of Pennsylvania craft and legacy brewers will participate in Bierfest, such as Brewery Techne /Bar Hygge [Philadelphia], Free Will Brewing Co. [Perkasie], Lion Brewing Co. [Wilkes-Barre], Love City
Brewing Co. [Philadelphia], Penn Brewery [Pittsburgh], Round Guys Brewing Co. [Lansdale], Roy-Pitz
Brewing Co. [Chambersburg], Sly Fox Brewing Co. [Phoenixville], Stoudts Brewing Co. [Adamstown],
Susquehanna Brewing Co. [Pittston], Triple Bottom Brewing Co. [Philadelphia], Tröegs Brewing Co.
[Harrisburg], Victory Brewing Co. [Downingtown], Workhorse Brewing Co. [Philadelphia], Yards Brewing
Co. [Philadelphia], ZeroDay Brewing Co. [Harrisburg], and more, plus the oldest and largest independent
brewer in the USA, Yuengling & Sons Brewery [Pottsville].

German imported beers will be poured as well, ranging from high-profile flagships to lesser-known artisanal
brews, including a range of beers from brewers like Ayinger, Bitburger, Gaffel, Hacker-Pschorr, HofBräu
Munich, Köstritzer, Külmbacher, Paulaner, Pinkus, Weihenstephaner, plus an assortment of Germany’s
stongest beers, or “starkbiers” courtesy of Brauhaus Schmitz.

Bierfest is packed with education for the beer-curious as well. Fans of German style beers can lean what distinguishes lagers from ales, and discover which beer styles are associated with which regions of Germany.

The VIP Plus package allows those ticket holders a seat in the Bierfest’s exclusive guided beer tasting seminar that takes place at noon in the Bierfest Academy (aka the German Society’s Horner Memorial Library).  This event will be led by event Co-Founder Marnie Old, a noted Philadelphia drinks author and the founder and head brewer of Victory Brewing Company Ron Barchet. The 10-beer guided tasting is on the topic of “Hops from the Middle Ages to the Modern Day: A Tasting Tour of Brewing History” and they’ll delve into fascinating details for the beer-geekhood.

Proceeds from Bierfest benefit Philly Roller Derby, who are proudly pouring to raise funds for league’s tournament travels, the German Society of Pennsylvania, the nation’s oldest German-American cultural organization founded in 1762 and for the Brewers of Pennsylvania, a trade advocacy group working to empower PA brewers and serve the interests of PA beer lovers.
