The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey show is coming to Philadelphia and will be held at the Wells Fargo Center. Talk about excitement for both kids and adults.

History of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey was founded in 1907, when the Ringling brothers purchased the Barnum & Bailey Circus. But both circuses still operated separately until merging in 1919.

Before the creation of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, Barnum and Bailey were competitors in the 1860’s, once competing for the first elephant that was born in the United States in 1880. Guess what city this elephant was born in? Philadelphia – In 1981, Barnum and Bailey merged, becoming successful in 1982 and one of their main acts was “Jumbo”, which was advertised as the world’s largest elephant.

In 1984, the Ringling brothers had started a small circus, about the same time that the Barnum & Bailey circus was at their peak in popularity. The Ringling Brothers circus rapidly grew because they were able to move their circus by train, allowing them to cover a lot of ground, giving them the largest traveling amusement enterprise of that time. As mentioned above, it was in 1907 when they all became one name.
