The Philadelphia Phillies win the National League East Division Title

The Philadelphia Phillies win the National League East Division with a 9-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Thanks to the pitching of Roy Oswalt that went 7 strong innings and Rual Ibanez hitting a grand slam in the 8th inning which gave the Phillies a safe cushion. What a year to be a Phillies fan, making this their 5th NL East Pennant in a row. Showing such dominance as the Braves once did for almost a decade in the 1990’s. The Phillies are now 2 wins away from #100 and look to have the best record in baseball by the end of the season.

The Phillies boast the best pitching staff in baseball right now, having two pitchers that are in consideration for the Cy Young Award.  Those two pitchers would be Cliff Lee and Roy Haladay, both of whom pitch in a small ballpark. And with the addition of Hunter Pence, the Phillies added a right handed bat that they so desperately needed, and it has shown since after the All Star break.

The end result is that the Philadelphia Phillies fan base is some of the best fans in baseball. They love their Phillies and over the years, have shown this while on the road, in many cases out cheering the home team. I truly think anything short of a World Series will make this Phillies season a disappointment. But here is how I see it. Hey Philadelphia, our Phillies are the National League East Division Champions tonight. And I personally don’t see anyone stopping us from getting to the World Series. What do you think?

Side Note : This was the fastest that the Phillies ever clinched a division title.
