‘Society Hill’s Movie Theater’
The Ritz Five movie theatre is located in Society Hill, just minutes from Penn’s Landing. The theatre was founded by Ramon L. Posel in 1976 as a three screen theatre, which was converted into five screens in 1985. Ownership has since been transferred over to Landmark Theatres in 2007.
Ritz Five Experience & Atmosphere
The Ritz Five has that classic feel and gives you a nice vibe when in the lobby, making it feel like you are back in time. There is also the street side ticket window adding to the classic feel.
The theater’s primary goal and mission is to give Philadelphia residents an opportunity to see the best in independent, foreign, and documentary films. They often show hard-to-find foreign films and other gems.
Opened 7 days a week, the movie theater has some excellent discounts during the day from Monday through Friday. If you see a show prior to 6:00 pm, the cost is only $6.50 and the price is the same for any show on Wednesdays.
One of the unique features at this theater that so many seem to enjoy is that you can get tea here. And the popcorn is very good.

Ritz Five Extras
- Discount parking at Auto Park at 2nd & Sansom Street (the parking garage at the Ritz East with entrances on 2nd Street and Front Street between Chestnut and Walnut). Price is $6.50 with validation when parking after 12:00 pm.
- Discount parking at Quality Park lot on Front and Walnut Street (in front of the Ritz East entrance). Price is $7.00 seven days a week. Must enter between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm (Friday and Saturday must exit by 7:30 pm).
- Tickets can be ordered online at tickets.landmarktheatres.com
- Nobody is admitted into a movie 15 minutes after starting
