The Holidays in Philadephia can be a special time of year with so many things to do in Philadelphia. So much of the hustle and bustle during the holidays can allow us to lose focus of what is important. Spending time with family and friends can add so much to ones life during theses holidays, that it’s nice to do things with others, and what not a better place than the City of Philadelphia.

Top Holiday Attractions in Philadelphia

• Macy’s Light Show – Something that would be fun and exciting to do with the family, possibly starting your own family tradition. And that is to check out the 15 minute light show at Macy’s. It’s fun and entertaining. ~ Macy’s Light Show ~
• Train Display at Reading Terminal Market – Remember as a kid, how much you loved trains. Stop by the Reading terminal Market to check out the train display. While you are there, you can shop for other various foods or enjoy some meals. ~ Train Display ~
• Santa on Ice in Manayunk in Philadelphia – December 10th – Watch a professional ice sculptor sculpt a chair out of ice prior to Santa Claus arriving in Manayunk. As you watch, B102 will be there to play holiday tunes. When Santa arrives, kids can have their pictures taken while sitting on his lap. ~ Santa on Ice ~
• Tree Lighting at Love Park – December 7th – Come watch Mayor Nutter as he turns the lights on the Christmas tree at Love Park.
• Reenactment of Washington Crossing the Delaware – December 24th – At Washington Crossing Park at 1 pm – For those history lovers, you’ll get to experience some history that turned things around. This is an annual reenactment and you get to enjoy a day of fun events and activities from 11 am – 3 pm. Actual crossing is a 1 pm.
• New Year’s Eve fireworks  – fireworks in Philadelphia – Penn’s Landing – December 31st to January 1st – Ring in the New Year with fireworks at Penn’s Landing, twice. This year there will be two fireworks displays, one at 6 pm and one at 12 midnight.
• Mummers Parade – January 1st from 9 am until 7 pm – Part of Philadelphia History and a Philadelphia Tradition dating back to the 1700’s. The first official parade was held in 1901. The City of Philadelphia is the only city in America where New Year’s Day is more of a party than New Year’s Eve. You’ll get to see four different categories (Comics, Fancies, String Bands, and Fancy Brigades). Keep in Mind : The intersection of Broad and Washington is the only spot where you can view all the Fancy Brigades without a ticket.

• Nutcracker At the Academy of Music –  The simple story of a girl, a gift, and a fanciful dream is made magical by opulent sets and costumes. ~ Nutcracker ~
• Winter Wonderland – December 4th from4 pm to 7 pm at the Headhouse Square near South Street –  You get to meet Santa (bring your own camera). Hot chocolate will be served while singing with carolers. Also, free horse and carriage rides. ~ Winter Wonderland ~
• German American Day – December 10th – A day in which you can experience German Culture during the holidays with German dance groups performing, a German Choir, while eating different German specialty foods and deserts. ~ German American Day at the Christmas Village ~
• Latkepalooza – December 11th –  At Gershman Y on 401 S. Broad Street – This annual event gives area chefs the opportunity to show off their skills with a potato pancake and offers you the chance to taste a variety of latkes while hearing some live music.  ~ What is a Latke? ~
• Jersey Boys Musical – December 6th, 2011 to January 14th, 2012 – Playing at the Forrest Theater in Philadelphia. A story about 4 kids who became the the band, the Four Seasons. Parking in Philadelphia – Free meter parking after 11 am on Saturdays for all of December. Also, some parking garages have reduced their prices for the Holidays.
