What a great time of year. The Philadelphia Phillies have brought excitement back to Philadelphia baseball, being 4 games back of the last wild card spot with 18 games left. The Philadelphia Eagles have their first home game of the season this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens as they set out for their quest of the Lombardi Trophy. Then there are the Oktoberfest celebrations starting now and Halloween kicks off next weekend with Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary. Who can just say WOW!

Did you know : Philadelphia was named having the best sandwich in America, #2 in best burgers in the country by Travel + Leisure and in the last 8 months, the city has been recognized for top 10 parks in the world, best cheesesteaks, and #1 in Culture. We can feel that the list will be growing in 2013.

Kat Edmonson – She’ll be playing jazz. The New York Times called Edmonson “a promising young jazz singer with a kittenish voice and an amiably relaxed style”.  Held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Great Stair Hall, starting at 5 pm. ~ Art After 5 ~

  • Scarecrow Festival ~ September 15 & 16 ~ At Peddler’s Village. Free admission. 10 am – 6 pm both days. Make your own scarecrow at the workshop for $25, live pumpkin eating contests, and live entertainment. Sunday only, a pumpkin painting workshop. ~ Scarecrow Festival ~

  • Celebrate Constitution Week at the National Constitution Center ~ September 16 to 23 ~ Daily events surrounding the Constitution of the United States 225th Anniversary.   • Mexican Independence Day Celebration ~ September 16 ~ Free. From 1 pm to 7 pm at the River Stage at Penn’s Landing.  Enjoy a taste of the rich Mexican culture at the festival and learn about Mexico’s past, while witnessing the traditional “Grito de Independencia,” a civic ceremony led by the Consul of Mexico in Philadelphia, Carlos Giralt-Cabrales, commemorating the beginning of the fight that led Mexico to freedom, with the participation of Casa Monarca’s color guard.   • Barnes Foundation ~ Now Open ~  The new building finally opened May 19th.   • “Stoker’s Dracula” is coming to Elfreth’s Alley ~ October 13 ~ The count is coming… Come see the bloodthirsty fiend of legend as he stalks through America’s longest lived-on street, Elfreth’s Alley.
