‘Brew Unto Others ~ New Location!’
Not only Tom Kehoe, founder of Yards Brewing Company, has created good tasting beers in Philadelphia over the years, but we think he struck gold with their new brewery in Northern Liberties.
The new Yards Brewery opens at 6 pm on November 16 to the public! Welcome to 500 Spring Garden Street in Northern Liberties!
Yards Brewery and Taproom Atmosphere & Experience
This stunning 70,000 square-foot facility will usher in an exciting new chapter for Yards, Philadelphia’s longest continuously operating brewery.
The industrial-looking taproom, designed by Digsau, has a space for 280 people. The open floor plan will allow diners to be able to see the entire brewing operation. The beer will be flowing from 20 taps in all, in which the bar itself was made out of old bowling alley wood. Next to the taproom is a lounge with a pool table, dart board, shuffleboard, and TV.
Tom Kehoe, founder and brewmaster, and Trevor Prichett, partner and COO of the 23-year-old company will actually have a kitchen. Creating a menu from chef Jim Burke, a three-time James Beard Award semifinalist, his résumé includes time with Stephen Starr, Marc Vetri, and Daniel Boulud.
The chef’s menu will include snacks such as wings, pork belly kebabs, pickles, steamed muscles, a Bavarian pretzel and more. There is also a section of soups and salads, several sandwiches, to include crab cakes, smoked cheddar bratwurst, roast pork with broccoli rabe and provolone and more. Entrees will range from Venison chili, The Yards Barbecue Platter that will include Texas briskett, cheddar bratwurst, and St. Louis Ribs to a few other items. For those dessert lovers, enjoy beer floats made with Yards Love Stout and root beer floats with Yards Root Beer.
According to Yards partner Trevor Pritchett, the brewery has room to grow in its new facility! As production grows, you will see the towering fermentation and aging tanks outside the building continue down the block. This fabulous new space also includes a canning line, which Yards plans to put into operation sometime next year, starting with their Brawler, IPA, and Philadelphia Pale Ale.

History of Yards Brewing Company
In 1994, friends Tom Kehoe and Jon Bovit established Yards after producing their own home brews in 1988. After several partnership changes, Kehoe has continued the brand to where they were brewing 55,000 barrels in 2015. The new Yards expansion into their 500 Spring Garden Street building will raise their production levels to 200,000 barrels.
Yards ESA (Extra Special Ale) was their first beer crafted and publicly poured at the Philadelphia Craft Beer Festival on April 29, 1995 in booth 406. They continue to produce ESA.
