‘Fun In The Sun At Eakins Oval’

Eakins Oval, also know as the Oval, has a beachy treat for you!

From July 17 to August 18, the Oval will be transformed into a mock beach, which will be offering an array of free activities for all ages.

The Oval is located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, right across from the famous “Rocky” steps that lead up to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

According to the phila.gov site, each day at the Oval will be featuring a different programming theme. Below is the daily activities at the Oval.

Tuesdays, Wellness
Wednesdays, Arts & Culture
Thursdays, Environment
Fridays, Food & Flicks
Saturdays, Live Music Series
Sundays, Family Fun Day

You’ll also be able to find interactive games such as the game Twister or the large chess or checkers boards, two sandboxes, fitness activities such as ping pong, movie nights, educational and environmental programs, live music and lawn chairs in the shade. Everything will be free except for the food from the food trucks. There will be a few different food trucks daily, bringing you some of the best foods in Philly from the streets.

When you think of beach, you think of water to swim in. There won’t be any swimming in the former parking lot, but there will be mist blown by a row of fans, cooling you off from time-to-time.

The pop-up park is part of the first phase of what the Parks and Recreation plans to help revitalize and activate the parkway in a variety of ways. The future plans are to head up events that would take place almost year-round, focusing on the spring, summer and fall.

UPDATE: The Oval Reopens from October 10-13

There will be live music, pumpkin painting, hay rides, a costume party to celebrate Halloween, a petting zoo and an Eagles game day viewing party. If you didn’t go during the summer, here is your last chance!
