City of Philadelphia Ranked #1 For Culture By Travel + Leisure

Hey City of Philadelphia !!  Give yourself and the city a pat on the back for ranking high for several categories in Travel + Leisure’s November issue of  “America’s Favorite Cities” poll. With so many things to do in Philadelphia, no wonder Philadelphia did well in some categories. As Philadelphians, they are very passionate about their city.

Travel + Leisure Magazine listing City of PhiladelphiaThe City of Philadelphia over the last several decades has received a negative image mostly do to the Philadelphia sports fans and because of the high crime rate. Hey people, that was of the past. The problem is, people hang onto the past more often then they should. Thanks to Mayor Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey, things have changed over the years in regards to crime. The City of Philadelphia is not even in the top 10 in US. News‘s report for 2011 and Neighborhood Scout has Philadelphia at #45.

The end result is that more people are visiting Philly and those visiting the city named Philadelphia #1 in Culture. This means that the combination of Philadelphia’s museums, theaters, art galleries, classical music, and dance companies out-performed those in every other city.

When you think about Historical Sites and Monuments, you think about Washington D.C., right? Move on over D.C., because Philadelphia was named #1 in this category also. Philadelphia Historical Sites & Monuments

Hey Philly, it even gets better.

Those visiting the City of Philadelphia also voted the city #1 in most sports-crazed city which is a no brainer considering that Philadelphia sports are a big part of this city, #2 in classical music, that fabulous Philadelphia foods would be #2 in street food, Philadelphia burgers was #2 in burgers, #4 in microbrew, #4 in pizza, museums in Philadelphia was #5 in museums, and much more. Even in regards to the Philadelphia Nightlife and Philadelphia Shopping, Philly was #9 and #5 overall. ~ Travel + Leisure’s complete breakdown ~

As you sift through the different categories from Travel + Leisure’s poll, you will notice that ‘Visitors’ seemed to have placed a higher number on many of the categories than those ‘Residents’ of Philadelphia themselves. In my opinion, it’s because Philadelphian’s have a higher standard in what they expect. But it is nice to know those that visit Philadelphia truly enjoy and embrace all that Philadelphia has to offer.

The History of Philadelphia is not just about the old, but about the new. As Philadelphians, we need to appreciate the Philadelphia Theaters, the Philadelphia Arts, the Philadelphia Attractions, Philadelphia History, museums in Philadelphia, and so much more. As one can see, there are many things to do in Philadelphia and we need to embrace what this city has to offer, because it’s a very special city.

HEY PHILLY – Speak up, what do you have to say about the City of Philadelphia? What do you like most about the city? What would you like to see changed?
