Finnigan’s Wake – Irish Bars in Philadelphia

‘Post College Bar’

Finnigan’s Wake is a large Irish bar in Philadelphia that is on the outskirts of Northern Liberties right on Spring Garden Street. The outside of the bar seems to be a recreation of an Irish street with the many different colors of green and mural on the front of the building.

Finnigan’s Wake Experience & Atmosphere

Finnigan’s Wake is a large 3-story bar with plenty of room, which still gets packed depending on the time of day or that special event. Especially when it comes to St. Patrick’s Day.

This warehouse-like bar usually seems to be a hub for those that range from their early 20’s to their late 20’s. There is a lot of dark wood that makes up this establishment and as you look around, you’ll see different types of Irish posters, pictures, and shamrocks.

The third floor is where the bands play and if you ever want to get away from the noise, you can head downstairs to the basement bar, where the atmosphere is usually more low key.

The Second floor of Finnigan’s Wake is the Civil War floor which is dedicated to both the Irish 69th Brigade and Abraham Lincoln. The “Irish Brigade” suffered tremendous casualties during the Civil War. After President Lincoln was assassinated, his body was to lie at Independence Hall. The night prior, his body was kept in a Northern Liberties funeral parlor, and the doors from that establishment have been made a part of the second floor, called the “Lincoln Doors.”

When it comes to drinking, Finnigan’s Wake has 16 draft beers and 40 plus bottled beers. Feeling hungry? Set aside from the standard pub food, they have several Irish dishes such as a Guinness Beef Stew, Fish and Chips, and Shepherd’s Pie.

Finnigan’s Wake in Northern Liberties is the place for any large party or gathering, especially if you want to have your bachelorette party here. Like any of the Irish bars in Philadelphia, come St. Patrick’s Day, it will be crowded. And don’t forget about the Running of the Micks which kicks off at Finnigan’s Wake on March 17th.
