Enjoy a full day and evening of fun on July 31 from 10 am to 10 pm as Franklin Square celebrates it’s 15th season with a large splash into summer! There will be crafts, games, live entertainment, yoga and more – all free of charge!
Franklin Square, featuring one of the country’s oldest fountains, is one of William Penn’s original five squares, that was included in his design for the City of Philadelphia!

The Summer Splash Experience and Atmosphere on July 31
Kids of all ages can enjoy these activities throughout the day! Adults will even be able to enjoy some of the activities of that day as well as the new beer garden!
- 10 am – 12 pm: Free crafts for kids
- 10 am – 10 pm: Fun games such as cornhole, Connect4, and more in the Games Tent
- 10:30 am – 11:30 am: Free Yoga in the Square Class
- 11 am – 11:15 am: Storytime in the Square
- 11 am – 4 pm: Once Upon A Nation Storytelling Benches – one of the three one-of-a-kind award-winning Historic District Once Upon A Nation Storytelling Benches is in Franklin Square, telling riveting stories of our nation’s history in the places where they actually happened. Specially-trained, uniformed storytellers delight and entertain with free, short 3-to-5-minute stories while sharing the secrets of Philadelphia’s and America’s history.
- 11:30 am: Guided Story Walk (bilingual Mandarin and English)
- 12 pm – 10 pm: Franklin Square Fountain Show – with daily performances every 30 minutes, the 181-year-old historic fountain dazzles spectators with a choreographed water spectacular with lights. Fountain jets dance magically with dramatic lighting and music, as LED lights glisten for visitors. Guests visiting the park day or night can enjoy choreographed “performances,” that showcase the historic infrastructure of the country’s oldest continuously operating fountain. Each performance is a selection of one of six songs and is FREE.
- 12 pm: Happy Birthday Franklin Square! with Benjamin Franklin and free animal crackers for kids
- 12:15 pm: Philadelphia Suns Lion Dance Performance
- 1 pm: Dance Performance by Step II Dance Studio
- 1:30 pm: Kids’ Dance Party
- 4 pm: Dance Performance by Concierge Ball Room
- 5 pm – 9:30 pm: Live Music from Danah Koch
- 5 pm – 10 pm: Franklin Square Beer Garden – NEW beer and cocktail garden under a beautiful tent with rustic garden chic décor, chandeliers, delicious food, and more!
Beer Garden at Franklin Square
Enjoy a rustic chic décor accented by chandeliers while inside a translucent tent that will provide shade as you relax with food and drinks at the beer garden.
The food is provided by Cescaphe which includes: flatbread pizza, sliders, charcuterie plates, arancini and crispy jumbo shrimp. At the bar you will cool off with such drinks and beverages as spiked blackberry lemonade, hard seltzers, prickly pear margaritas, beer, wine and more. The beer garden is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 5 pm to 10 pm.
Beer Garden Under Tent
Don’t forget the mini golf course for all ages at Franklin Square. Also enjoy the Parx Liberty Carousel, two playgrounds, and SquareBurger, operated by Cooperage.
