Philadelphia Eagles – Is The Season Over With at 3-3 Record?

Philadelphia Eagles

‘Eagles Football – Playoffs or Bust’

We all know that the Philadelphia Eagles fan base are some of the toughest, most knowledgeable, and passionate fans in the country. Sometimes we get to excited and passionate and not think things through, criticizing very easily. It just comes with the territory, right?

The Eagles are now 3-3 and one game behind the New York Giants. Sure, the season is still somewhat young, with 10 games remaining. Sure, they beat the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Giants, and lost a close game to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh. But what about this dismal loss to the Detroit Lions this past Sunday.

Having a 10 point lead going into the 4th quarter, who do you think is at fault for this collapse .

  • A) Andy Reid
  • B) Juan Castillo, the defensive coordinator
  • C) Marty Mornhinweg, the offensive coordinator
  • D) Mike Vick
  • E) The Players themselves
  • F) Jeffrey Lurie, owner
  • G) All of the above

Well, I say G, all of the above. I never thought Juan Castillo should had been named the defensive coordinator in the first place. I love Reid’s loyalty, faith, and believing that he could do a good job. And sure, people have to start somewhere, but Castillo hadn’t been on the defensive side of things for over two decades. Here are some facts.

  • After leading the NFL with 50 sacks last year, Philadelphia has only seven and none in the past three games.
  • The defense is able to limit yards and keep teams off the scoreboard en route to a 3-1 start.
  • BUT… in the last two games, the Eagles have allowed long drives at crucial times late in the fourth quarter. They can’t get stops at important points.

Some are saying are defense is fine. Some are calling for Marty Mornhinweg. If I really had to point a finger, I would point it at Andy Reid. We know he has always been pass happy and loves control. Is he controlling Mornhinweg? Yes, Reid has been a very good coach over the years, but I scratch my head at times, wondering what he is thinking.

In the National Football League, you must have a potent passing attack. Yet, at the same time, you still need a balanced offense and have a good running attack. We have one of the top running backs in LeSean “Shady” McCoy. I applaud that we tried running it against the Lions on Sunday when you would have thought we were passing, which isn’t typical of Reid. But it wasn’t working. So why did they go back to the same exact running play, many times over, netting in losses. See, our offensive line has been mangled this year, with some key losses. That hurts. My one question, why have the Eagles abandoned the screen play that works very well.

Yes, we can play the blame game. It’s very easy to be armchair quarterbacks. Sometimes we need to push aside emotions and dissect the real issues. Is owner Jeffrey Lurie to loyal, in not firing Reid in the last 2 years, mostly because of Reid’s record?

Some questions to ponder. Are the Philadelphia Eagles bust or playoff bound? Just firing Juan Castillo, did he deserve this?  Who should be next?

If you were coach, tell us how you would change this all around.

Go Philadelphia Eagles!!
