‘Best Passionate Sports Fans in the Country’

The City of Philadelphia has so much to offer and we sometimes take for granted the little things while focusing on the larger things. Yes, we would consider a large focus has been on Philadelphia sports teams. But let’s not forget that Philadelphia has recently been recognized for top 10 parks in the world, best cheesesteaks, #1 in Culture, tops in history, and we can feel that the list will be growing in 2012.

As Philadelphians, we can still be proud of our sports teams. What a great part of the year as baseball starts up, the playoffs for both hockey and basketball, and that the NFL draft just ended. Which brings me to the main focal point for this week. How many cities can actually get excited and be proud of their major sports teams.

  • The Philadelphia Flyers – The Flyers have moved into round 2 of the hockey playoffs, after beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 4 games to 2. And the Penguins were the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. We are not getting ahead of ourselves, but we certainly like our chances at not only competing for the Cup, but winning it. I would say that the St. Louis Blues could get in our way. Go Flyers!!

  • The Philadelphia Sixers – The Sixers got off to a very hot start and cooled off some prior to the playoffs. They did win 4 games in a row heading into the playoffs and now face the Chicago Bulls in round one. Most will say that the Sixers have no chance, and we hate to have a defeatist attitude in saying, “at least we got to the playoffs.” But keep in mind, anything can happen at any time. Go Sixers!!

  • The Philadelphia Phillies – Yes, we have been spoiled over the years with the Phillies being one of the best teams in baseball over the last 5 years. Sure, we have some injuries, the team is getting older, and we have gotten off to a terrible start. But we still love our Phillies and it’s just April. We have some of the best pitchers in baseball and we’ll need for them to step up and help carry us to another National League East Championship. Go Phillies!!

  • The Philadelphia Eagles – Okay, the Philadelphia Eagles had a very disappointing season last year, especially when they were anointed as the “Dream Team.” The Eagles played well the last 4 games of the season and show a lot of promise for the 2012-2013 season. Better yet, we think the Eagles had one of their better drafts in recent years and probably one of the top 10 in the NFL. Matt Miller from the Bleacher Report gave the Eagles an A grade, while Pete Prisco from CBSSports gave the Eagles a B+ grade. We gave them a A- grade ourselves and we can’t wait until the start of football season, to where the Eagles will be contenders in our minds. Go Eagles!!

Philadelphia is just an awesome city that has so much to offer. We can certainly be proud of our sports teams to include the Philadelphia Soul and the Philadelphia Union. Philadelphia sports fans have gotten a bad rap in previous decades, but this city has a lot of pride and passion not only in sports, but in its history, arts, museums, theaters, restaurants, nightlife, and much more. What do you Philadelphians have to say? What about those that have visited Philadelphia over the last several years. Please share….
