‘Beer + History + City of Brotherly Love = Fun Loving City of Philadelphia’

Beer Week in Philadelphia is an exciting time for many. This years 10-day event(s), from June 3 to 12, is the ninth annual celebration of the city’s beer culture that will be throbbing with energy. Since starting in 2008, the yearly celebration allows beer lovers to go on tours of some of the best pubs and breweries and will feature events ranging from beer tastings, beer-pairing dinners, lectures, and other activities and specials.

How well noticed is Philadelphia when it comes to the best places in drinking beer? Frommer’s mentioned Philly as one of the top 14 cities in the world for drinking beer in 2011. Philly was mentioned with other great beer cities such as Dublin (IE), Munich (DE), Amsterdam (NL), Vienna (AT), Edinburgh (UK), and two America cities; Portland (OR) and Milwaukee (WI). The small clip even went on to mention Philly Beer Week. World’s Best Cities for Beer 

Travel & Leisure mentioned Philadelphia as the #12 city out of 20 in the United States a few years ago. Thrillist ranked Philly as the #11 city in America out of 16 cities. The list continues on with many others placing Philadelphia in the top 15 cities for beer.

The opening of Philly Beer Week kicks off on June 3, 2016 with several of the bars opening up at 8 am with beer specials. Take part in the Hammer of Glory Relay! (follow up article with link below on May 19) Follow the Hammer starting at 6:45 am starting at CBS 3 and then moving onto FOX 29 as it travels to many different bars and making some non-bar stops. The Hammer’s final destination is at Opening Tap and has in the past ended up in the hands of the Mayor to tap the first keg of Philly Beer Week. To follow the Hammer of Glory Relay, Click Here. As mentioned above, Opening Tap is the main event that kicks off Philly Beer Week, which the name was invented by the PBW founding fathers trio of Don Russell, Bruce Nichols and Tom Peters. The event takes place at Fillmore this year is from 7 pm to 10 pm and is $46 for general admission and allows you unlimited samples from forty local breweries that have been confirmed as well as an interactive photo booth. There is also a VIP ticket at $92, which allows you 1 hour prior starting at 6 pm with food. There will also be live music, food, surprises, and a keepsake sampling cup. Click Here for more info. Philly Beer Week is organized and operated by Philly Beer Week Inc., which is a non-profit organization that is overseen by a board comprised of brewery owners, distributors, restaurant owners and others, to promote Philadelphia’s beer and hospitality industries. Since 2008, more than 50 other U.S. cities have copied Philadelphia’s success to launch their own beer weeks.

The 2016 PBW app is now available for iPhone and Android:

• updated maps and directions to venues;
• improved compatibility with the desktop site, including syncing favorites across both platforms; and immediate access to PBW’s mailing list
• new search filters for events, by date, by location, by neighborhood and by brewery; plus new Push Notifications, alerting fans as to where The HOG will be appearing
• integrated social media sharing on Twitter and Facebook, for the most interactive, sociable PBW app yet
