Philly Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration At City Hall

Tree Lighting City Hall

‘Holiday Traditions In Philly’

Get into the holiday spirit at the Philly Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration on Wednesday, December 2 starting at 7:30 pm at City Hall at the North Broad Street Portal (North side of Broad St) outside Dilworth Park!

This year will be very different. This year’s tree lighting ceremony will be virtual! The event will air on 6 ABC starting at 7:30 pm! Enjoy an exciting lineup featuring special guests and holiday-inspired musical performances.

This year’s holiday tree is a 60-year-old white fir (abies concolor) from Yule Tree Farms. Located at the Wawa Holiday Plaza, the tree stands more than 50 feet tall and is adorned with almost 5,000 linear feet of multi-color LED lights and more than a dozen hand-designed and painted ornaments including colorful holiday balls, snowmen, sleds, stars, and snowflakes. This year, new additions to the VISIT PHILADELPHIA Holiday Tree powered by NRG will standout, recognizing impactful events of 2020:

  • The tree will hold two custom-made ornaments honoring the spirit and impact of the Black Lives Matter movement in Philadelphia and across the country. These ornaments are intended to serve as a reminder of the City of Philadelphia’s ongoing commitment to racial equity and justice.
  • There will be a message from Mayor Kenney recognizing and thanking essential workers, frontline staff, and healthcare professionals for their commitment to keeping the city safe in the face of COVID-19.
  • The custom-fabricated steel tree base is more than 7 feet tall and represents a connection of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods—from Chinatown to Fishtown. The decorative pedestal showcases artful silhouette images of Philadelphia’s famous skyline and icons such as Independence Hall, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.
  • A soundtrack accompanying the illuminated tree base features a mix of holiday classics and modern tunes, as well as seasonal messages of hope and joy from sponsors and City of Philadelphia leadership.
  • Guests can experience and enjoy the VISIT PHILADELPHIA Holiday Tree from the comfort of home by tuning into the 6abc camera coverage featured on phillyholidayexperience.com

All Philly Holiday Experience activations will be held outdoors – adhering to required capacity limits, social distancing guidelines, mask wearing, and all other City of Philadelphia, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and CDC guidance in order to promote safe ways to enjoy this highly anticipated time of year.
