Tugboats at Independence Seaport Museum

Tugboats Art Exhibit by Dave Boone at Independence Seaport Museum

‘Tugboats: The Art of Dave Boone’

Tugboats aren’t thought of much when it comes to boats in the maritime world. The tugboat was never a popular boat, yet they served a very important role in many ports.

Tugboats move vessels that can’t move themselves, such as ships in a crowded harbor, or those that cannot move by themselves, such as barges, disabled ships, etc. You would think a Tugboat would be weak, but they are very powerful for their size and strongly built.

Dave Boone, an award-winning artist, brings his collection of tugboats to the Independence Seaport Museum. The exhibit is called, ‘Tugboats; The Art of Dave Boone’.

The exhibit showcases the journey of one man’s life as a kid growing up around boats and his love of tugboats. As a kid, Dave would capture all types of boats along the Newton Creek in pencil from his dad’s homemade rowboats. His beautifully detailed artwork and watercolor paintings describes the life and progression of tugboats.

Dave Boone is the President of the Tugboat Enthusiasts Society of the Americas, A member of the American Society of Marine Artists, The Camden County Historical Society, The Burlington County Art Guild and The Willingsboro New Jersey Art Alliance. He also keeps his ties to the Marine Community ongoing.

He continues to paint commissions for the maritime community and his extensive knowledge and artistic ability combines to make his maritime subjects come alive. His long range goal is to tell the history of Delaware River Tugboats in Paint and Print for all to enjoy!
