It’s that time of year again when Philadelphians get excited about Philly Beer Week. Not only those from the city or the surrounding area, but those who specifically come to this week long event for a specific reason from far away. Especially since Philly Beer Week is celebrating 12 years of beers!

Did you know that Philly Beer Week is the largest and oldest beer celebration of its kind in the United States. All of this would make perfect sense since Philadelphia has been part of many firsts and recognized as one of the World’s Best Cities for Beer.

With so many activities in 10 days, we wanted to give you specific details and a breakdown about the upcoming events, festivals, tours, beer tastings , dinners, and much more.

Philly Beer Week is May 31 – June 19 : Events, activities, and more

May 31, Friday

  • The Hammer of Glory Relay ~ Starts at 9:30 am & ends around 7 pm ~  The Hammer of Glory Relay is an annual event to where the Hammer itself is transported various ways from bar to bar throughout the city. The Hammer symbolizes the spirit and fun of Philadelphia being an unique beer-centric community.

The Hammer of Glory, aka the HOG, will start at 10 am, as it travels to many different bars and breweries, hitting 15 + before it ends up in the hands of a special guest, where it will be used to tap the ceremonial first keg of Philly Beer Week at 7:30 pm at 2300 Arena (2300 S. Swanson St, Phila 19148).

For those that want to venture on the HOG Relay and not have to worry about transportation. for $1o a person, beergoers will be transported bar to bar by a school bus.   • Opening Tap ~ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm ~ Held at 2300 Arena (2300 S. Swanson St, Phila 19148) – Giving you ample samples from the region’s top breweries, 60 + of which have been confirmed. Micros/brewpubs – they’ll  be pouring the finest ales and lagers, including seasonal beers. Live music will be performed, The 9th Annual Philadelphia Inquirer Brew-vitational awards will be given out, and surprises with a keepsake sampling cup. Want to start early, get a VIP ticket. One-hour limited audience tasting session starting at 6:30 pm, featuring a selection of special beers paired with complimentary beer-friendly food. All VIPs receive a souvenir drinking glass plus gift bag and this allows you to stay the rest of the evening. ~ Get Tickets! ~ 

June 1, Saturday

  • Milk Boy’s O.G.B. Block Party – An Outdoor Launch Festival ~ 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm ~ Pay-As-You-Go ~ Held at Milk Boy at 401 South St. This block party pays tribute to the O.G. brewers who built the local craft-beer scene, like Yards, Dock Street, Dogfish Head, Victory, Tröegs, and Philadelphia Brewing Company, who will have can and draft releases alike. ~ Milk Boy’s O.G.B.   • The Doog Abides Can Release & Block Party 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm ~ Held at Evil Genius at 1727 N. Front St. The Doog Abides – 6% – White Russian-inspired Amber Ale Brewed with American barley & German hops, fermented with our house ale yeast, then infused with local coffee, Madagascar vanilla beans, and milk sugar. Bring your dog, get inspired by Lebowski! Costumes encourage for you AND your doggos! ~ The Doog Abides Can Release & Block Party ~

  • Urban Village Brewing’s Birthday Bash ~ 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm ~ Held at Urban Village Brewing at 1001 N. 2nd St. • Special Bottle and Tap release: Barrel Aged Funky Child a Sour Saison Aged in Oak Chardonnay barrels. • Live Music 1-8 pm Perkalators & ORB Mellon • Meet the Brewers 1-3 pm w/Free Samples • Pig Roast and Smoked Meat Picnic starting at 1 pm.   ~ Urban Village Brewing’s Birthday Bash ~

June 2, Sunday

  • East Passyunk Avenue Craft Beer Day ~ 11:00 am – 12:00 am ~ Pay-As-You-Go ~ Sixteen East Passyunk restaurants, bars and retailers will present opportunities to meet the brewers, try new craft beers, and enjoy beer-infused and inspired foods. ~ East Passyunk Ave Craft Beer Day ~

  • Classics BBQ ~ 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm ~ Pay-As-You-Go ~ Held at Tradesman’s at 1322 Chestnut St. Tradesman’s will be featuring their core dozen ‘American Classic’ drafts for $5/ea. These beers each come from breweries that they greatly respect, and credit each in some distinct regard for shaping the Craft Beer community that we all enjoy today. Through the event they’ll also be featuring $5 Smoked Wings and $10 BBQ Plates from the kitchen. Lastly, the Phillies play at 4 pm (game with sound). ~ Classics BBQ at Tradesman’s ~

  • Beer Olympics ~ 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm ~ Pay-As-You-Go. Held at the Grey Lodge Pub at 6235 Frankford Ave. Enjoy their sixth annual Philly Beer Week Bar Olympics with Manayunk Brewery and friends. Grab 2 or 3 people and make your own team, or join a brewery team. There will be trophies and prizes. Competition includes beer pong, flip cup, ice cube tray canoe race with straws, depth charge, survivor flip cup, trivia and best outfit/costume.  ~ Beer Olympics ~

  • Late Night In Brussels ~ 9:00 pm – 2:00 am ~Pay-As-You-Go ~ Monk’s Cafe and Jose Pistolas team up to re-create a late-night bar crawl in their “favorite beer town,” Brussels, with the region’s Brasserie De La Senne and Maine mainstays Liquid Riot Bottling Company and Oxbow Brewing Company that culminates in a night-ending dance party.  9 pm to midnight at Monk’s & 11 pm to 2 am at Jose Pistola’s.Late Night In Brussels ~

June 3, Monday

  • 2nd Annual Beer-Cocktail Competition  ~ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm ~ Held at Prohibition Taproom at 501 N. 13th St. 4 Philly bartenders. 3 rounds. “Chopped-style” competition. Each round featuring a secret Free Will brew, an undisclosed Boardroom spirit, and a surprise locally sourced fresh ingredient. Your vote decides who goes on to the next round! Only one can win! $30 at the door (cash or credit). Ticket fee gets you: a Free Will Brewing can in your hand immediately upon entry, and 2 oz samples of all nine cocktails. Plus voting rights. June 4, Tuesday

  • Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen ~ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm ~ $75 per person. Held at Pistola’s Del Sur at 1934 East Passsyunk Ave. Every year, chef Adán Trinidad gets a crew of his chef friends together for a six-course collaborative beer dinner, and the 2019 roster is impressive: Chris Kearse of the upcoming Forsythia, Chad Durkin of Carlo’s Bakery, Mike Strauss of Mike’s BBQ, Saté Kampar’s Ange Branca, and Triangle Tavern’s Mark McKinney.   • Art on Beer ~ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm ~ $15 per person. Held at Warehouse on Watts at 923 N Watts St. Here is your chance to dive into why the artists and the breweries make the decisions they do when it comes to the art and designs on cans. From an entire redesign to an addition of a new flavor series or one-off, the third installment of the Art on Beer panel discussion will be moderated by JP Flexner, most notably known for his design work for Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company of Croydon, PA. This year’s installment features: the illustrations of Brewery ARS of South Philadelphia; the combined styles of free hand and graphic design from Free Will Brewing of Perkasie, PA; our Canadian friends, Collective Arts Brewing, who fuse the craft of brewing with the inspired talents of emerging artists and musicians; and Stillwater Artisanal from Baltimore, MD whose goal is synthesizing art and beer. * There will be some seating both tables and at the bar, as well as high tops. Food & beverages will be available for purchase during the event.*

  • Philly Inspired Live Drawing & Glassware Art Contest ~ 10:00 pm – 2:00 am ~ FREE to enter contest. Pay-As-You-Go beer & food. Held at Vargas Bar at 941 Spruce St. Fat Head’s will be doing a contest to see who gets to be the artwork for their next glassware! which will be produced and used at future beer events! DJ from Workhorse Brewing will be spinning all Philly inspired music. ~ Philly Inspired Live Drawing & Glassware Art Contest ~

June 5, Wednesday 

  • Kingpin ~ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm ~ Held at Standard Tap at 901 N. 2nd St. Ten of your favorite local breweries compete to see whose pin will be the first to kick and be crowned KINGPIN! Join Standard Tap on the porch and help your favorite brewery kick their pin first! They will also open voting to a People’s Choice for best brew~ Drink, enjoy, vote, and see who is crowned the winner! ~ Kingpin ~
  • Ancient Alcohol: A Taste of Bygone Booze Tour & Beer Tasting ~ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm ~ $25 per person & $15 non-drinking tickets. Held at the Penn Museum at 3260 South St. Party like it’s 5000 BCE! On this exclusive tour, examine one of the world’s oldest wine jars and plunge into the studies of Dr. Pat McGovern, Penn Museum biomolecular archaeologist, who has worked with Dogfish Head to create brews based on samples from our ancient vessels.   • Beers and Boats at Bartram’s Garden ~ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm ~ Held at Bartram’s Garden, celebrate Philly Beer Week in the great outdoors with local brews served at the Bartram’s Garden Community Boathouse on the Schuylkill River. Kayaks and rowboats available on a first-come, first-served basis. Brewing partners: Cartesian, Crime & Punishment, Dock Street Brewery, Get Cozy Vintage Mobile Bar, Philly Homebrew, Separatist Beer Project, Sir Charles Hard Cider, Sly Fox, Yards. The event will also include a DJ and Dos Hermanos food truck (cash only)! Tickets are $15 per person ($10 for members of Bartram’s Garden). Tickets include the cost of the first beer and a boat or kayak excursion out onto the Schuylkill River from our Community Boathouse.   • Dinner Under The Shambles ~ 6:30 pm – 9:30 am ~ $75 per person. Held at The Shambles in South Street Headhouse District at 2nd & Pine Sts. Hosted by Pizzeria Stella, they are teaming up with 2SP Brewing Company to host a special four-course family-style dinner with beer pairings for Philly Beer Week. ~ Dinner Under The Shambles ~

June 7, Friday

  • Barrel Aged Extravaganza ~ 4 pm – until they run out ~ Pay-As-You-Go. Held at The Twisted Tail at 509 S 2nd St in Society Hill. Come experience the influencing flavors of oak. Enjoy a beautiful line up of barrel-aged beauties. Come and taste them individually, as a flight, or pair the beers with the spirit that was originally in the barrel! They have lined up some crackers this year of all varieties, including their very own house brew (courtesy of Dock St) of their Prince Mishkin Imperial Stout aged in our Maker’s Mark Private Select barrel for 9 months. Other highlights this year are Goose Island Bourbon County Stout and Project Scotch Ale, Six Point Righteous Rye, Crooked Stave Wild Sage, 2SP Strawberry Switchblade, Virtue Maple Mitten and Rose ciders, among others! ~ Barrel Aged Extravaganza ~
  • Return of the Terrapin Turtle Races ~ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm ~ Pay-As-You-Go. Held at El Camino Real at 1040 N 2nd St. El Camino & Terrapin Brewery will be holding the Return of Turtle Races to fundraise for local Turtle Rescue. Place bets on your favorite turtle. Terrapin Tap take over and beer specials throughout the night. ~ Return of the Terrapin Turtle Races ~

June 8, Saturday.

  • Luau BBQ ~ 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm ~ Pay-As-You-Go. Held at Uptown Beer Garden at 1735 Market St. Enjoy a Hawaiian-inspired BBQ cookout & let’s send off Philly Beer Week as cool as an ocean breeze… Hawaiian BBQ specials, island-inspired cocktails, and some local fruit beers on tap. Specials run 2 pm -6 pm, live music 3 pm -5 pm. ~ Luau BBQ ~

June 9, Sunday

  • Clam Bake On The Patio ~ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm ~ Pay-As-You-Go. Held at City Tap House at 3925 Walnut St in University City. Kickstart your summer with the some great vibes on City Tap House’s patio! Specialty clambake with kielbasa, potatoes & corn for only $20! Plus live music and great brews from Cape May Brewing Co. ~ Clam Bake On The Patio ~
