Wursthaus Schmitz Brings Tasty German Foods to Reading Terminal Market

‘ A Slice of Germany in Philadelphia’

Wursthaus Schmitz, the sibling of Brauhaus Schmitz, is operating in the Reading Terminal Market and is located right next to the Flying Monkey. Wursthaus means sausage house, like having a German Deli. This fine German eatery opened in mid November of 2012.

Wursthaus Schmitz Experience & Atmosphere

If you want German music, German beer, then head over to Brauhaus Schmitz on South Street. Otherwise, be prepared to indulge in excellent hot German specialty sandwiches. Anything from the ‘Schmitz’, with Brauhaus Schmitz bratwurst, pork, sauerkraut and mustarad on a pretzel roll; the ‘Bavarian’, with smoked Bauernwurst, Bavarian Cole Slaw, horseradish sauce and fried onions; or the ‘Hungarian’, with smoked Hungarian bratwurst, beef goulash and roasted hot Hungarian peppers.

Chef Jeremy Nolen has brought his creations over to the Reading Terminal Market from Brauhaus Schmitz after doing some testing and is excited about this new challenge. Jeremy told us,

“I am excited about this new venture and being a part of the lunch rush at the market.”

You’ll be pleased to find 11 types of sausages and 6 types of specialty sausages, to include 8 main dishes and 5 specialty sandwiches. You’ll even be treated to their German Patoto Pancakes, Spaetzle, sauerkraut, and other fine German specialty imports.

All of the sandwiches are made on a special bread made daily at Ba Le Bakery on Washington Avenue. The texture is close to German Brötchen, which seems impossible to find in the United States.
