A New Vietnamese Spot, “PHoCUS,” is Quietly Moving into Old City

A new Vietnamese joint called “PHoCUS” is officially coming soon to 7 North 3rd Street, just above Market Street in Old City.

So far, the arrival is shrouded in a bit of mystery. The restaurant recently popped up quietly on Google Maps, but details remain scarce. There is currently no announced opening date, no menu, no website, no phone number, and no Instagram presence to track their progress.

However, the address itself carries a long and varied culinary history in the neighborhood.

Most recently, the space was home to Makhani Modern Indian, which opened its doors there in 2019. Before that, the storefront housed Dos Rosas and Bistro 7.

Older Philadelphia dining fans might best remember the address as Blue In Green—a beloved breakfast and lunch spot famous for its pancakes, often affectionately described as a “hipster breakfast place before hipster breakfast places existed.”

Going back even further, 7 North 3rd Street was home to Sneakers, a popular lesbian bar that operated from 1980 until 1991.
