‘Celebrating President’s Day in Philly’
Don’t get disgruntled by this weekends weather forecast. Spring is around the corner. Why? Because the Philadelphia Flower Show will be opening in two weeks.
So, what are you doing for Presidents’ Weekend and President’s Day. There will definitely be activities for all ages at the Historic Philadelphia Center and the National Constitution Center. Did you know : Philadelphia was just name 1 of the top 10 US travel destinations for 2013. Also named for having the best sandwich in America, #2 in best burgers in the country by Travel + Leisure and in the last 8 months, the city has been recognized for top 10 parks in the world, best cheesesteaks, and #1 in Culture. We can feel that the list will be growing in 2013.

- “Love Public Art” Photo Contest ~ February Now until 24 at Midnight ~ Valentine’s Day is not over just yet. Head on over to JFK Plaza (15th St and John F Kennedy Boulevard) and capture your best shots of the Love sculpture. ~ Love Public Art Contest by the Association for Public Art ~
- Art After 5 ~ February 15 ~ Free with admission, from 5 pm to 8:45 pm. Valentine’s Day; the day after – One of the top party DJs, Cosmo Baker is able to bring hip- hop, disco, soul, rock, reggae, and electronic music together in a cohesive and funky manner. Held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Great Stair Hall, starting at 5 pm. ~ Art After 5 ~
- Taste of Philadelphia: Market Tours ~ February 16 & 20 ~ Starts at 10 am every Wed & Sat – Learn the story behind cheese steaks, hoagies, pretzels and other Philly food favorites, and the 114-year history of the vibrant Reading Terminal Market where they’re sold during this 75-minute, food-writer-led walking tour. ~ Taste of Philadelphia: Market Tours ~
- Presidents’ Day Weekend at Historic Philadelphia Center ~ February 16 – 18 ~ Storytelling and crafting will be 12-4 pm from the 16th to 18th. ~ Historic Philadelphia Center ~
- Presidents’ Day Weekend & President’s Day at National Constitution Center ~ February 16 to 18 ~ At the National Constitution Center, from 9:30 am to 5 pm, learn about the role of the President and what it takes to be commander in chief. Kids can create campaign buttons and design their own Presidential Seals at the craft activities tables. ~ President’s Day at the National Constitution Center ~
- National Museum of American Jewish History ~ February 18 ~ National Museum of American Jewish History is offering pay-what-you-wish admission in honoring all Presidents. From 10 am to 5 pm, you will get the chance to explore many exhibits, to include two featured exhibits such as; Beyond Swastika and Jim Crow: Jewish Refugee Scholars at Black Colleges and Jewish Artists in America 1925-1945: Selections from the Collection of Steven and Stephanie Wasser. NMAJH is also offering free cherry pies from the Museum Café. Grab an individual kosher cherry pie, while supplies last! ~ Pay-What-You-Wish ~
- National Liberty Museum ~ February 18 ~ The National Liberty Museum is opened on President’s Day, from 10 am – 5 pm. - The President’s House ~ Open year around ~ An interactive site that is opened 24/7, talking about our past leaders and the story of the slaves that lived in the house. ~ The President’s House ~

- The Swedish American Line Exhibition ~ Now until February 24 ~ From the early days as a passenger fleet for immigrants to its lavish cruises, visitors will get a look into the fleet’s history, exquisite style and personal stories and anecdotes from former passengers. Taking place at The American Swedish Historical Museum in South Philly. ~ The Swedish American Line Exhibit ~
- Titanic Exhibit ~ Now until April 7, 2013 ~ The Titanic exhibit arrives at The Franklin Institute. Get a glimpse of 300 + artifacts from after the Titanic was sunk. This is the 100th anniversary of the tragic story of 1,502 people that lost their lives. ~ Titanic Exhibit ~
- American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of the Prohibition ~ Now until April 28 ~ At the National Constitution Center, Explore the build-up, execution and legacy of the ill-fated 18th Amendment in American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition. The exhibition features 100 rare artifacts and collectibles like a 1929 Buick Marquette, a car make and model that was often used by bootleggers to transport alcohol and much more. ~ The Rise and Fall of the Prohibition ~
- The Artifact Lab – Mummy Conversation at Penn Museum ~ Now until (no date set) ~ Here is your chance to get up close and personal. Watch conservators clean, examine, & preserve Egyptian Mummies at Penn Museum.
