It’s that time of year again when Philadelphians get excited about Philly Beer Week. Not only those from the city or the surrounding area, but those who specifically come to this week long event for a specific reason from far away. Especially since Philly Beer Week is celebrating 10 years of beers!

Did you know that Philly Beer Week is the largest and oldest beer celebration of its kind in the United States. All of this would make perfect sense since Philadelphia has been part of many firsts and recognized as one of the World’s Best Cities for Beer.

With so many activities in 10 days, we wanted to give you specific details and a breakdown about the upcoming events, festivals, tours, beer tastings , dinners, and much more. Just a FYI, that we start off Thursday, June 1 with the Hammer of Glory Relay and Opening Tap, because these two events kick-off Philly Beer Week.

Philly Beer Week is June 1 – June 11 : Events, activities, and more

June 1, Thursday

  • The Hammer of Glory Relay ~ Starts at 9 am & ends around 7 pm ~  The Hammer of Glory Relay is an annual event to where the Hammer itself is transported various ways from bar to bar throughout the city. The Hammer symbolizes the spirit and fun of Philadelphia being an unique beer-centric community. The Hammer of Glory, aka the HOG, will start at 9 am, as it travels to many different bars and breweries, hitting a total of 25 before it ends up in the hands of a special guest, where it will be used to tap the ceremonial first keg of Philly Beer Week at 7 pm at The Fillmore (26 East Allen St). For those that want to venture on the HOG Relay and not have to worry about transportation. for $10 a person, the SugarHouse Casino is sponsoring the trip with one of their double-decker buses.   • Opening Tap ~ 7 pm – 10 pm ~ Held at The Fillmore (26 East Allen Street) – Giving you ample samples from the region’s top breweries, 45 + of which have been confirmed. Micros/brewpubs – they’ll  be pouring the finest ales and lagers, including seasonal beers. Live music will be performed, The 7th Annual Philadelphia Inquirer Brew-vitational awards will be given out, and surprises with a keepsake sampling cup. Want to start early, get a VIP ticket. One-hour limited audience tasting session, featuring a selection of special beers paired with complimentary beer-friendly food. All VIPs receive a souvenir drinking glass plus gift bag and this allows you to stay the rest of the evening. ~ Opening Ceremony ~

June 2, Friday

  • Kick-Off Lunch11:30 am – 4:00 pm ~ Held at Jose Pistola’s, kick off Philly Beer Week with Weyerbacher is a Pistola’s tradition. Meet the brewer, Chris Wilson of Weyerbacher. Chris is a wealth of beer knowledge. He also has a degree in Physics. Come ask him why beer molecules taste better than every other molecule and other such stuff. ~ Event ~
  • Official Philly Loves Beer Garden ~ 2:00 pm – 12:00 am ~ Come hang at the Uptown Garden, located in Center City, everyday during Philly Beer Week. ~ Event ~
  • Founders & Fat Heads Pig Roast ~ 5:00 pm – 12:00 am ~ Held at The Industry in South Philly, Chef Bryan Burger will be roasting 200 lb spent beer-grain fed pig while you enjoy great beers from Founders and Fat Head. Pay-As-You-Go. ~Event Details ~
  • IPA Day ~ 5:00 pm – 2:00 am ~ Held at Eulogy Belgian Tavern in Old City, they will be featuring some of the finest IPAs available including Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits Sculpin, Dogfish Head Beer 120 minute IPA, Avery Brewing Company Maharaja, AleSmith Brewing Company IPA, The Hop Concept Citrus Piney and Tröegs Independent Brewing Nimble Giant. Don’t forget to ask for some of the mussels and other delicious foods. ~ Event Info ~
  • Beer’d Science with Evil Genius and Smutty Nose ~ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm ~ Held at the Grey Lodge Pub in Northeast Philly, enjoy beers from the Smuttynose and Evil Genius beer vaults, science experiments in the back, and more! Pay-As-You-Go ~ Event Info ~
  • A Night of nicethings ~ 10:00 pm – 2:00 am ~ Held at The Heritage in Northern Liberties. Join The Heritage as they host acclaimed hip hop artist Chill Moody and friends for a night of #nicethings. This is the official re-release of Chill and Dock Street’s collab beer, #nicethings IPA. They’ll have four Dock Street beers on draft, including #nicethings IPA. Chill Moody will be performing “unplugged” with Luke O’Reilly and his band, and they may have some other special guests as well. Local music, local beer, and FUN! Event Details ~

June 3, Saturday

  • Oxbow Brunch ~ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm ~ Held at Khyber Pass Pub in Old City, Oxbow Brewing crafts, born in Philly & brewed in Maine, it’s some of the most interesting and nuanced beers around. The only thing better than beer for breakfast is great beer for brunch! ~ Event Details ~
  • It’s Always Sunny Side Up In Philadelphia ~ 11:00 am – midnight ~ Held at Bru Craft & Wurst. Pizza Boy does it right. Stop by for a rare visit to town from local heroes Terry and Al, and get into some next level sh*t, featuring a TON of fresh hoppy beers, and six variants of award-winning Sunny Side Up Stout on tap, five of them gravity pouring from one-off firkin finishes. ~ Event Details ~
  • Pig Roast, Block Party with Origlio ~ noon – 8:00 pm ~ Held at Taproom on 19th, enjoy some rare selections poured by Origlio. So many, they’re bringing a draught truck with 10 extra taps for outside. Such beers from Pizza Boy, Oskar Blues, Dogfish Head, Weyerbacher, 2SP and more. Taproom will be roasting a whole pig or two, and Mike’s BBQ will be serving up some killer Q! This is going to be so big we’re closing down the street! …and don’t forget the bouncy house for the kids! ~ Event Details ~
  • Moriarty’s Beer Garden ~ noon – 10:00 pm ~ Held outside of Moriarty’s Irish Pub, enjoy east coast beers such as Dogfish Head, Great Lakes, Weyerbacher, Sly Fox & Heavy Seas with food. ~ Event Info ~
  • Half Acre and Sole Kensington Riots “17 ~ noon – 2:00 am ~ Held at Memphis Taproom. Half Acre comes back to Memphis for their annual  celebration of  beer week with Sole brewing.  Bring your riot gear and fight it out for some special offerings from both breweries.  ~ Event Details ~
  • Burnt Ends ~ noon – midnight ~ Held at Held at Evil Genius Beer Company. Enjoy the classic three lettered American pastime of  BBQ (with all the fixins)! Accompanied by the musical stylings of Philly’s own fun loving, hip hop playing DJ Haveboard. ~ Event Details ~
  • The 9th Annual Great Beer Expo: Beer Under the Big Top ~ VIP12:30 pm – 5 pm & Reg Admission 1:30 pm – 5 pm ~ $75 VIP & GA $50. – Takes place at the Philadelphia Navy Yard75+ Breweries / 150+ Beers – This beer tasting event will feature an incredible variety of beers from some of the finest local and national breweries while raising money for the Committee To Benefit The Children.   • Unibroue at The Belgian Cafe ~ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm ~ Held at Belgian Cafe. Join host Jerry Vietz of Unibroue for their annual Philly Beer Week event. They will have some great Unibroue ales on tap, and Jerry always brings some special brews to taste and discuss. ~ Event Details ~
  • SNL – Stockertown Night Live ~ 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm ~  Live from the Grey Lodge Pub, it’s Stockertown Night! Music, skits, cold-open, weekend update, and more! Featuring beers distributed by Stockertown Beverage. ~ Event Details ~

June 4, Sunday

  • Can Art Contest with Brooklyn Brewing & St. Benjamin Brewing ~ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm ~ Held at Garage FishtownBrooklyn and Saint Benjamin will be providing blank cans. People can come in and build, color, design, or do whatever they want with the cans to make the coolest thing. There will be guest judges and prizes award for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place. ~ Event Info ~
  • Scavenger Hunt with Ninja Cowboy Bear Showdown ~ 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm ~ Held at Evil Genius Beer Company, contestants must make a team of up to 5 for a walking scavenger hunt where they must complete a task in each bar (and drink a beer or two). Must have all tasks completed and back to Evil Genius by 6PM for the final showdown: a game of Ninja, Cowboy Bear. Mock up awards ceremony at 7 pm. ~ Event Info ~
  • Hula Contest ~ 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm ~ Held at TikiPicture beautiful babes in coconut bras and grass skirts swaying their hips in the summer breeze… EXCEPT the babes happen to be hairy, sweaty males who have been slamming beers all afternoon. Join 2SP Brewing and a Special Liquor Guest for their All male Hula contest! ~ Event Info ~
  • Beer Olympics ~ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm ~ Held at the Grey Lodge Pub in Northeast Philly, enjoy the fourth annual Philly Beer Week Bar Olympics! Grab 2 or 3 people and make your own team, or join someone else’s. Competitions include: Beer pong, flip cup, ice cube tray canoe race w/ straws, depth charge, trivia, survivor flip cup & best outfit/costume. For safety and sanity reasons, many of these events will be done with water. ~ Event Info ~

June 5, Monday

  • PBW Oyster Cult ~ 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm ~ Held at Johnny Brenda’s, they’ll be offering a flight of 4 select beers and 4 fresh raw oysters on the half shell for $15. ~ Event Details ~

June 6, Tuesday

  • New Kids on the Block ~ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm ~ Held at Standard Tap in Northern Liberties, meet the brewers of some of the newest breweries to pop in the area! Standard Tap will be featuring 2 beers from each brewery! Brewery ARS’s Sean and Andrew Arsenault, Double Nickel Brewing Co.’s Drew Perry, Vault Brewing Co.’s Mark Thomas & Stickman Brews’s Ethan Buckman. ~ Event Details ~
  • Pennsylvania Brewer’s Battle Royal ~ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm ~ Held at Time, Ten Pennsylvania Breweries battle it out in true Battle Royal fashion. The more beer you order, the higher the chance they have of winning. Winners get guaranteed lines, losers are shamed ans sent packing. Some of the breweries participating: 2SP, Weyerbacher, Yards, Victory & Troegs. ~ Event Details ~
  • Art on Beer ~ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm ~ Held at Frankford Hall in Fishtown. Is that label making your thirsty? We see the label and are instantly hooked – regardless of the brewery or style, those colors caught our eye. Join Philly Loves Beer for a night focusing on the incredibly talented artists behind some of the most kick-ass labels on the streets! ~ Event Details ~

June 7, Wednesday

  • Beer Lab at The Franklin Institute ~ 7:00 pm – 12:00 am ~ Held at The Franklin Institute, sample and sip your way to scientific discovery! Explore the process behind brewing beer in an interactive workshop exclusively for adults. With hands-on activities from some of the area’s best breweries and science institutions, you’ll learn how water, hops, barley, yeast, and carbonation combine to create the perfect pint. Plus, test your palette with a carefully curated selection of samples from our partners. ~ Event Details

June 8, Thursday

  • Founder Barrel Aged Lunch ~ 11:30 am – 3:00 pm ~ Held at Jose Pistola’s! Founders rolls in for a special lunch of barrel aged goodies. Draft list: KBS, Frootwood, Lizard of Koz, Doom Imperial IPA & Lemon Drop IPA. ~ Event Details ~
  • Beers and Boats at Bartram’s Garden4:00 pm – 8:00 pm ~ Held at Bartram’s Garden, celebrate Philly Beer Week in the great outdoors with local brews served at the Bartram’s Garden Community Boathouse on the Schuylkill River. Breweries include Evil Genius, Dock Street, Quaker City Malting Co., Cartesian Brewing, and Highway Manor Brewing Co. Kayaks and rowboats available on a first-come, first-served basis; all instruction and equipment will be provided. Tickets are $15 per person ($10 for members of Bartram’s Garden), and include the cost of the first beer and a boat or kayak excursion out onto the Schuylkill River from our Community Boathouse. ~ Event Details ~
  • Coast to Coast Big Fish Challenge 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm ~ Held at City Tap House University, along with Harpoon Brewing and Ballast Point Brewing, welcome you to partake in the Big Fish Challenge.   • Deutschland at Dusk5:00 pm – 10:00 pm ~ The German party is moving from Brauhaus Schmitz to the Shambles in Headhouse Square. Located at 2nd & Lombard, under the pavilion, there will be $6 half liters or $14 full liters (KEEP THE MUG). There will also be food, games and live music so the whole family can enjoy this neighborhood Biergarten! ~ Event Details ~
  • 4th Annual Turtle Races6:00 pm – 9:00 pm ~ Held at Drury Beer Garden, shout at 2 inch turtles crawling on a piece of felt with Terrapin brewery ! drink up, because proceeds from terrapin sales will go to the Philadelphia Zoo! there will be (no) blood, lots of sweat and some spilled beers!  its safe to say the people who came up with this event were probably drunk but going on year 4 it seems to be a huge hit! ~ Event Details ~
  • Hugs and High Fives with Yards for Industry’s 5 Year Anniversary Party ~ 6:00 pm – 2:00 am ~ Held at The Industrycelebrate our birthday with Hugs and High Fives from the guys at Yards! Oh, plus awesome loval beers! ~ Event Details ~
  • Left Hand Brewing Drag Show ~ 7:00 pm – midnight ~ Held at Taproom on 19th, it’ll be a night of drag, comedy and beer!
    The drag show will feature Bev, Vinchelle, Sutton Fearce & Fahrenheit!

June 9, Friday

  • Sly Fox & Troegs Canwood Derby race5:00 pm – 2:00 am ~ Held at Good Dog Bar. Sly Fox & Troegs will be going head to head to see who has the fastest canwood derby car! Registration starts at 5 pm and the racing begins at 7 pm, so don’t be late. Oh yeah, and they’ll have awesome local beers to drink while you race! ~ Event Details & Derby Rules ~ 

June 10, Saturday

  • Fishtown FestivALE ~ 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm ~ The 6th Annual Fishtown FestivALE.  In honor of Philly Beer Week, your favorite beer destinations on the bustling Frankford Ave corridor in Fishtown are teaming up to bring you an outdoor summer beer party! There will be plenty of cold beer, tasty food, fun & music to help you wile away the summer hours.Look out for beer gardens from Johnny Brenda’sFrankford Hall and Bottle Bar East. Under Johnny Brenda’s tent, they will be serving up pulled pork sandwiches, soft shell crab sandwiches, potato salad, and corn on the cob. They will be pouring beers and punch to help you beat the summer heat! Frankford Avenue between Girard Ave and Master St. ~ Event Details ~ 
  • Terrapin Turtle Races ~ 3:00 pm – midnight ~ Held at Tiki, the Mother of Turtles has relocated her nesting spot to TIKI and they couldn’t be happier to host the hard shelled racers! Join them and Terrapin Brewing for the 4th year of Turtle races! New location – New Beers – Same friendly faces! Catch yah on the race track, nerds. ~ Event Info ~

June 11, Sunday

  • The Bakers Dozen ~ noon – 4:00 pm ~ Held at The Heritage in Northern Liberties. Cape May Brewing Co. will be joining The Heritage for their final event of Philly Beer Week. Pouring 14 Cape May beers, including 13 that will taste like different pies. There will also be a pie-eating contest, with cool prizes for the winner. As an homage to Phish’s upcoming “Baker’s Dozen” tour, Four Lean Hounds will be here playing a blend of Phish and Grateful Dead covers from 12 pm -4 pm. ~ Event Details ~
  • Berliner Salute zu Curt Decker 10 Day Hangover Brunch with Coppertail Brewingnoon – 2:00 am ~ Held at Memphis TaproomThe Coppertail gang curates a list of Berliner Weisses, including Purple Drink & a few other tasty treats from Tampa as well as Dogfish Head Festina Peche. Of course Nodding Heads Ich bin Berliner Weisse to salute Curt Decker od Nodding Head fame. End Beer Week 2017 right in the Memphis Beer Garden for Brunch and Revelry. Event Details ~
