Shakespeare’s King Lear in Clark Park ~ July 24 – 28 ~ Starting at 7 pm reach night at Clark Park at 4398 Chester Ave. This year, enjoy Shakespeare’s tragedy, “King Lear.” For five nights, Shakespeare’s play centers on the tale of a king who bequeaths his power and land to two of his three daughters, after they declare their love for him in an extremely fawning and obsequious manner. His third daughter gets nothing, because she will not flatter him as her sisters had done. When he feels disrespected by the two daughters who now have his wealth and power, he becomes furious to the point of madness. He eventually becomes tenderly reconciled to his third daughter, just before tragedy strikes her and then the king. The shows are free, although donations are accepted. 9th Annual Schuylkill Tidal Boat Parade At Bartram’s Garden ~ July 27 ~ FREE – From 11 am – 3 pm. Bartram’s Gardenat 5400 Lindbergh Boulevard. Anything fabulously decorated that floats is fair game to enter in this annual boat parade! Costumed competitors and their creations hit the water in hopes of winning trophies for best costume, best decorated boat and more.
