‘We Think Spring Is Here To Stay In Philly!’

Happy Friday! It’s looking up to be a nice weekend for once. The Philadelphia Phillies have their home opener today and it’s First Friday all over the city. Especially in Old City and in Manayunk.

This is the time of year when the food festivals start taking shape in April and May. Next week is the 2nd annual Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival, the Philly Farm & Food Fest on April 14, Flavors of the Avenue on East Passyunk on April 27, the Italian Food Festival on May 18, Philly Beer Week starting May 31 and many others. What’s your favorite food festival?

Did you know : Philadelphia was named 1 of the top 10 US travel destinations for 2013. Also named for having the best sandwich in America, #2 in best burgers in the country by Travel + Leisure and in the last 8 months, the city has been recognized for top 10 parks in the world, best cheesesteaks, and #1 in Culture. We can feel that the list will be growing in 2013.

  • First Friday’s in Old City~ April 5 ~ Your chance to visit Art Galleries throughout Old City after normal hours. You will be able to talk to the art directors and possibly some of Philadelphia’s local artists. This also takes place as First Saturdays with select Art Galleries extending out to Fishtown. ~ First Fridays ~
  • First Friday’s in Manayunk ~ April 5 ~ Come enjoy art in Manayunk. Before or afterwards, enjoy a meal at the many restaurants, or stop in one of Manayunk’s wonderful specialty shops. ~First Friday’s in Manayunk ~
  • Art After 5 ~ April 5 ~ Free with admission, from 5 pm to 8:45 pm. Japan Night – Featuring the Orient Express – Enjoy an evening of Turkish and French music and dance! Begin with a set of Turkish music and belly dancing, followed by French gypsy jazz and a performance by a French chanteuse and accordionist. Finish with a round of cancan. Held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Great Stair Hall, starting at 5 pm. ~ Art After 5 ~
  • Philadelphia Phillies ~ April 5 to 7 ~ A three game series against the Kansas City Royals at Citizens Bank Park. Cool Tip! Free face painting before every Sunday home game by Paint Your Face, inside McFadden’s Ball Park from 10:30 am until the game starts. Anyone can stop by for a free Phillie’s P or even have the Phanatic painted on their cheek! ~ Phillies Tickets ~ Also, stop by an awesome Phillies tailgate by One Crazy Fan. You might want to hire them for your next event.   • World Beat Event at Painted Bride Art Center ~ April 6 ~ 4 pm & 8 pm,  the Painted Bride Art Center welcomes Philadelphia families for an exploration of cultures around the world through percussion with Tamagawa Taiko Drumming & Dance Troupe. Young Rembrandts will be at the event giving free drawing lessons to young kids ~ Event info at Painted Bride & Tickets ~
  • Drexel University Online to Host Pennsylvania Student Veterans Conference ~ April 6 ~ From 8 am to 5 pm, open to all student veterans across the country, the free conference will include breakout sessions on topics such as career opportunities, strategies for success, and creating an active veterans club on campus. ~ Info on Student Veterans Conference ~ ~ Online Sign Up Form & Details ~

  • American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of the Prohibition ~ Now until April 28 ~ At the National Constitution Center, Explore the build-up, execution and legacy of the ill-fated 18th Amendment in American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition.   • The Artifact Lab – Mummy Conversation at Penn Museum ~ Now until (no date set) ~ Here is your chance to get up close and personal.   • Philadelphia Parks – Such as Fairmount Park or even Franklin Square for the kids or relaxing.

  • 2nd Annual Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival ~ April 13 ~ From 11 am to 5 pm, 30 food trucks to line Main Street.  The festival will serve as the kick-off for Manayunk’s Restaurant Week beginning Sunday, April 14 and running until Friday, April 26. More info to follow.
