‘Philadelphia Cheesesteak Tour 2020 Spotlight’

In our search for the very best, we encountered many true craftsman in the art of cooking and science of food. Few go to the depth of Danny DiGiampietro, who owns Angelo’s Pizzeria in the Bella Vista neighborhood, adjacent to the Italian Market. Danny is currently rebuilding after a fire damaged his location at 736 S 9th street, just off Fitzwater. We send our hopes and prayers for a quick rebuild and are equally excited to announce that he is opening a bar and restaurant just a short distance down the block.

The bar and restaurant will be called Luciana’s, after his 9 year old daughter. Angelo’s is actually named after his son, who is about a year younger than Luciana. When the bar opens, it will feature many of his signature sandwiches he has become known for.

So what sets his devotion and craftsmanship apart is his focus on the quality components. At Angelo’s, not only do they bake their signature seeded rolls daily, but they also make their house mozzarella, which is often mentioned in the reviews and a cause for longer lines.

Prior to the birth of his original location in 2014, Danny was focused on the craftsmanship and artist of bread. As a bread baker, he understands attention to detail, and that carried over to his gourmet sandwiches, incredible thin crust pizzas and cheesesteaks. It was not long before he outgrew his original location in Haddonfield and reopened it in its current location. The current location is just adjacent to the Italian Market and is the home of many businesses and business owners, a point he knows very well after having married into the Sarcone family. Sarcone’s Bakery is located a few blocks away.

His business again has reached capacity and this growth is credited with his decision to reduce the menu offerings and focus on pizza and cheesesteaks. A few of his specialties include his thin crust pizza, “Grandma” pizza, his stacked cutlet sandwiches, his amazing cheesesteaks and his upside down “jawn” pizza.

We look forward to the reopening of 736 S 9th and the new opening of Luciana’s at 9th and Catherine Sts.
