In our sampling of 64 cheesesteak havens, suggested by other cheesesteak lovers or discovered on our own by in-depth research, we came upon a true hidden gem that holds its own against the Philly favorites, yet finds itself on the northern edge of Trenton. MeatheadZ Cheesesteaks, located a good 35 miles northeast of the Philadelphia, is that place! MeatheadZ owners Joe and Jeff Weintraub took the inspiration of trips to South Philadelphia and their fathers love of cooking, and fulfilled their dream of owning a restaurant. Inspired by the excitement of the crowds waiting in lines at so many of Philadelphia cheesesteak locations, they decided to bring that passion and joy to New Jersey.

While cheesesteaks are the passion of the family and customers, they also make dam good burgers, solid 8.0 wings, chili that is worth the heartburn, as well as delicious shakes that compliment any sandwich. Their cheesesteaks are served on the top of the line Amoroso roll and are 100% Ribeye sliced to perfection. When asked about their Ribeye, the response you get is:

MeatheadZ offers several cheese selections, and while I stayed with sliced American, I did sample their house made version of cheesewhiz that ends its similarity at the name. It was rich, creamy and made with real cheese. They take their time with the perfectly cooked onions and while I never add green peppers to a cheesesteak, they offered them as well.

This local favorite in Hamilton New Jersey truly does reflect the lessons learned by Joseph and Jeff in their frequent adventures in the City of Philadelphia, as well as the love of good food passed on by their dad.
