‘Philadelphia Cheesesteak Tour Spotlight – Goomba’s Pizzaria’

When the sign and slogan says, “Bringing South Philly to Da Burbs,” you know you need to stop and try it. Although Goomba’s in Colmar was no stranger to any of us on the quest for the regions best cheesesteak, we still had to make it official and stop in.

Of course we were not disappointed and the reputation proved true. Nicky “Goomba” Merlino and his team make incredible Italian specialties, pizza, sandwiches, homemade pastas and more. The crab cakes are homemade and 100% lump crab meat, the steaks feature 14 ounces of perfectly cooked meat on a house made roll, the burgers are a full 1/2 pound of meat and the beer battered fish for Lent is made featuring Yuengling. All are part of the recipe for success, which Nicky and the Merlino family have put forth.

Hailing originally from South Philly, Goombas is not their first success in the suburbs. Village Pantry in Feasterville, which is the he mecca for hoagies in Bucks County for years, was also a Merlino family creation.

On my recent visit, of course I had their wonderful cheesesteak, his incredible Bolis and a sampling of the homemade gnocchi. All were worth the trip to Colmar. I am planning another trip in the very near future for wings and what has been hinted at as the best shakes in the area. As a suggestion, get the “Steak Italiano” with Broccoli Rabe and sharp Provolone. You will not be disappointed!

We are truly excited that in our search of 64 cheesesteak venues in the area, Goomba’s was in the top six and will be competing for the number 1 spot in the finals. I recommend you look over their menu. Nicky Goomba and family have been providing amazing Italian foods to the region for over 35 years, and Goomba’s represents that family tradition well.
